Default 2004 z06 transmission

I have a 2004 Z06 that I really enjoy driving but recently it's popped out of first gear twice which kind of surprised me. It's also a bit rough going from first to 2nd and into 3rd when just warming up.

(grinds a bit).

once it's warm it's pretty much OK.

Is this a POTENTIAL problem? Does anyone else have rough shifting or gears popping out?
is this NORMAL?

My warranty expires in August and I want to be sure I'm not stuck with something big 1 week after it expires

thanks everyone!

Mark

Default Trans Problems

My M6 has never popped out of gear. It's not difficult to shift in any gear. I would look into getting it fixed under the warranty.

Default more info

thanks Bob for the response

I might add it only has 13,500 miles on it. I work mostly from home and dont' have to drive that far to work when I do have to work outside the house.

I just want to square away any issues I'm currently having before the bumper to bumper warranty expires

Any additional comments welcome!

thanks

I have the same problem in my DD Camaro, but the tranny does have 92k miles on it (with no fluid changes!).

If the car's under warranty like you say, just take it in. If they can't help you, try changing out the fluid, maybe even use GM's 'synchromesh' (semi-synthetic fluid).

Popping out of 1st really isn't too good at all. Did you buy the car new? I used to have 1st gear problems when I first bought my car, but after a while I realized it was only when I didn't get 2 "clicks" when putting it into first gear. If I put it in and it only clicked once (1 "notch") then I knew it'd pop out if I tried to let out the clutch. A little more force when shifting solved everything.

Just something to think about.

Hey there,

I just wanted to add that I had that problem with my 99 FRC. Basically I resolved the issue (same as you, really only happend seldomly) by adjusting the shifter carrier, and installing a Hurst shifter, I have a feeling the shifter carrier adjustment really did it. I also put syntetic Amsoil ATF in the tranny and that really smoothed out the way it feels. Really easy to do if you're technically inclined at all, then you wouldn't have to bring your car to the dealer and know that the technician was going to beat the crap out of it on the road tests.

Personally, I don't let anyone put a wrench on my car except me.

Default more sticky gears

i am not "handy" when it comes to cars so I end up taking it to the dealer to be worked on. now after the warranty expires...that's antoher story not sure where i"ll take it.

but....it's difficult to shift into 1st gear about 50% of the time. grinds a little from 1st to 2nd, and a little from 2nd to 3rd about 60% of the time.

Sometimes difficult to put into reverse but not always.

so...i guess my options are to ask the dealer if they will service it before the warranty expires. I just don't want to have major expenses 2 days after the warranty is over.

does anyone ever purchase extended warranties? I checked chevy's web site and the 3 year warranty is bumper to bumper ---even tires.

thanks for your comments and posts do appreciate it. if my car was a beat up sentra or something like that i'd probably LIKE it if the gears grind but not my z06 :>)

Default Similar problems on my 2000.

I'm having similar problems on my 2000. Hard to get in first when cold. Tight into second and third. Gentle shifting allows the shifter to slide into gear much more easily, but under aggressive shifting the shifter resists in first, second and third. I'm going to try the synthetic ATF change and ask my transmission shop to make the shift carrier adjustment (not sure what that is).

I was just about ready to buy a new shifter. Thanks for the posts above!

Default shifting gears

oddly enough it's started to shift easier for some reason almost like new now. I did take it in to have the oil changed but i can't imagine that would have fixed the difficult shifting.

hmmmmmmmm. will report back later if there are any updates.

thanks!
