Hi: Labor usually runs in the 4 to 6 hundred range. Add that to whatever clutch package you decide on and you're looking at from about 900 to as much as 1400 or 1500 bucks. Pick a good clutch package and a trusted mechanic or shop 'cause you only want to do this once! :D :D :D

Wow, you guys are lucky. I paid $900 to install mine here in Silicon Valley. And then I paid another $450 to swap the master cylinder. $1350 in labor! Maybe I should just drive down to Texas to get my next clutch install. What shops do a good job down there?

No kidding... the last time I got my clutch replaced (2nd time) I got whacked by the dealership for $1100. Then I had to go to another shop to get the Master installed... I think that was $400. $1500 for clutch & master install!!! :bs :cry This does not even include the price for the McLeod Twin Disk with Aluminum Flywheel, AP Master & Z06 Slave... but then again no one said a Vette would be cheap to own. :nono:
When I get my car done, I am only being charged $300 for the install, I paid $520 for the Stage III Star Carbon Clutch (comes with a new Z06 flywheel) and $120 from GM for a Z06 Slave cylinder. A total of $940 installed.

Where was that at I live about 45 miles from you and may need a clutch soon. I am trying to avoid the rip off artists of the bay area
nice timing on the question. i just dropped my c5 off two hours ago for a new clutch. after extensive research, i decided to go with a 2002 Z06 clutch. i know that the cartek is the forum favorite, but it is backordered and i don't want to wait any longer. i went with the 2002 Z06 also because i am having a c5 drivetrain specialist at a local Chevy dealership do it.
so, on to the price ...
i am getting the 2002 Z06 clutch, with a new slave cylinder, pilot bearing, and throwout bearing, for $1450 parts and labor.
Two points I'd like to make:
1. With the huge labor expense involved in getting to the clutch, I would think it's prudent to buy the clutch, flywheel, and slave cylinder/throwout bearing package from the installer. If anything is wrong, with either the labor or the parts, then it is the responsibility of only one business, the installer.
2. Does one need a re-alignment due to suspension parts disconnected?
If so, that's an additional expense.
Let me answer Wicked's question and then 2Kbluestreet.
First, the location that is doing my clutch install is Ralph Gobel's Hot Rod Heaven in Sacramento.
Second, the SPEC (Star) comes with a new throw out bearing, flywheel, and alignment tool.
Yes you do have to get a rear alignment when you do a clutch install, cost $45.00 (est. for rear only) $120.00 for 4 wheel alignment.
HP-GURU, if you have the access to a lift, tranny jack, a clutch alignment tool, air tools, a buddy and a service manual for your C5 it's really not all that hard. I have read many installs on the F-Body and a few C5's and they're all pretty much the same. The hardest part is dropping the tranny and torque tube w/driveshaft, after that it's pretty simple. I'm going to put mine in when the time comes and I plan on taking MANY pictures and posting it all. Also, Cartek has a VERY INTENSIVE write-up on a the installation of their Cartek clutch on their site. It's for an F-body LS1 but they are very similar in most regards. Also, Install University has a McCloed Clutch install for an F-Body but again, they are pretty similar. Plus these in combination with your service manuals are more than enough info :).
The vehicle grinds going into 3/4 and the clutch engagement has changed to the point where disengagement is about 1" off the floor. It used to be about 3" off the floor.
On cable actuated clutch vehicles I have had worn clutch affect shifting. I hope this is case here and not that I need tranny.
The vehicle is out of warranty rat. Im thinking of another extended. I personally cannot sell it like it is. Prefer to have it in a descent order, perhaps move on to z06.
On the HP guy. I'm glad they did not accept 20k to come over to HP. HP is the Optimal Solution. My V class outperform Sun E10k many times over. The USIII chip is just catching up to PA-RISC 8600. PA-RISC 8700 will spank USIII clock for clock. HP bus/memory/cpu architecture is hands down superior in performance. HP does cost more, and Sun admins do tend to misconfigure HP box. They keep me consulting though.
