Everybody.............Thanks for you contributions to this post. I, and hopfully you, have learned a lot.
Unfortunately, a conflict has come up and I can not have the PRTs installed on Monday as planned. It'll have to wait till Friday or Saturday. Nevertheless, as promised earlier, I will report back with my experiences. I'm not sure, however, if I'll just restart this thread or start a new one.
PRT's and an A4 don't mix....seems like the M6 guys are okay with them, but it seems any of the B&B products (I've had both RT66 and PRT's) have ressonance at 1500 rpm...if you are a weekend driver and cruise around alot on highways it might be okay...if you are a daily driver like myself and are in 35 mph traffic the ressonance is a guaranteed headache...
As for the 75. try and buy, the first few months using them wasn't bad...but there have been numeroud reports, myself included, that with about 6-7k miles on them the drone gets worse and worse...
Tom,let me get this straight. You're gonna put the PRT's on and then shove her in the garage for the winter! I thought you said the 28th you were going to put her down for the year. I'd love to hear your exhaust, as I'm thinking about any/all mods that might work for me (in the long run)
BTW, we need to get some sig pics for ya. I have a scanner if you need and Photoshop. Let me know if you want to try something.
Stingray1967...........Well, yes. But, then, mods don't stop just because the seasons change. Last year about a week AFTER storage, I bought a GMS MAF. Let me just put it this way, I put on 2000 miles on my snowmobile trying to take my mind of the C5 and GMS. I guess, I'm just a glutton for punishment. On the other hand, it's nice to pull it out of storage with something new on her.
MDFtx........Thanks for your thoughts on the PRTs and a A4. With the Powerloader, I'm running around 2K RPMs most of the time. Is that where the resonance problem is?
I have a 98 A4, with headers, 3.42s, and Yank 3200 Converter. I have resonance in the car at lower rpms - on some days it is worse than others, but it is very annoying. Wide open throttle sounds great. I WOULD NOT do the PRTs again. If you mod the car in future, the sounds may get worse. I think the converter contributes to the annoying sound as the converter allows higher than stock revs in around-town driving. And what is an A4 without a converter upgrade - that is a GREAT mod for A4 cars?
When I did heads/cam, it just got worse.
Those speedway tips look good - but I came very close to taking the PRTs off the car. I kept them on for the time being but I WOULD NOT DO IT AGAIN and would get something else instead.
Just a thought for you folks that are having an issue with resonance. Are you running an x-pipe? If not, do you think a x-pipe would reduce the resonance?
I'd like to hear from somebody (if I havn't allready) who has the PRTs on a '98 A4 with the 3:15s and a x-pipe.
By the way, I checked tonight and at 65 I'm turning 1800 RPMs.
I listened to a set of PRT's before I bought, but they were on an M6...I liked what I heard...BUT
I am running an xpipe, headers with my PRT's...maybe I got one of the defective sets...the day I took them off, I measured the interior sound level at 40 mph, 1500 rpm over 120 db...
so B&B swapped out for me to RT66's becuase there were no reported problems with them....they were quieter, but still way too much ressonance for an a4...I swapped out back to stock exhaust with a CF member who had an M6....he was very pleased with the sound on his car and I am back to loving mine...
AFter a year of experience with B&B, they are really best on an M6...
I like his scientific approach of measuring the dbs. TexasRedY2K, if you're still out there, do you feel the same way about the PRTs today as you did in May when you did the review?
I have one of the first sets, before any fix I would think. There is some resonance there, noticeable with the top up and radio off. Actually it is more of a drone at low rpms. I always drive with the top down, and then it is a non-issue. Maybe I'm just used to it, but it doesn't annoy me...it isn't my daily driver either. I love the sound at WOT though. It still sounds like a motorboat at idle, but I've never heard a C5 that didn't IMO.
OK...I admit up front that I am biased, but...stick your fingers in your B&B tailpipe...what do you hit...a restrictor plate! We believe that B&B uses this to control noise (they run right around 95db which makes them legal in California). A restrictor plate also increases back pressure and reduces flow. John Legenfelter just ran a 9.60 in Dallas in his 650hp C-5 using our stock Titanium system, and he says that the Borla system is the only system that will flow enough to handle his 650 ponies...check it out yourself!

When did he say this? I've heard the same thing about the PRTs. Hold one up, and you can see straight through it, how about yours :D Just a friendly rub :)
reference to earlier post, I do have X-Pipe installed - that was the first step I took to reduce the drone. It cut it down slightly, perhaps 5%.
And I agree with the poster who said the sound is more of a drone, not so much resonance where the surfaces of the car are shaking & rattling. It is damn annoying - but I drive my car every day in the city. Highway is not too bad.
Actually, we pay him a lot of money to say that...only kidding, John cannot be bought. You can't look through our C-5 system because has two 90 degree bends in the can, but it is free flowing! Also, our XR-1's have no mufflers on them, saving 40 pounds and increasing flow. They run about the same as the Corsa Indies on the db meter, and are louder than the B&B's.

I have driven next to Nitrovette on the Chicago expressways and his has an awesome sound expecially when it slows down. I have the Corsa Indy and now sound on the inside. My wife will not drive the car so I can hear it going down the road. Other forum members like Nitrovette sound
