Default thin or thick oil pump O-ring?

Putting together an LS1 for the Vette.I was thinking of using either a melling pump with the standard spring, or a ported LS6 pump with the high pressure spring. But what I dont know is if I should be using the 'thin' or 'thick' o-ring. This LS1 was pulled back in '98 from an SS at the dealership. The engine was ticking and the o-ring split while sitting in the bay; they didnt know the problem at the time so they replaced the entire engine. Clean as could be otherwise for 320 miles

Dont know what to use. this LS1 will have Livernois heads, LS6 intake, new stock injectors, ported TB, the same 226/230/114 cam I run now, LS7 lifters, 918 springs, LS2 chain and new rocker arms. If my oil pressure maxed at 50 I would be happy but I have yet to see it peak 40. Idles at 20 or less.

I THINK you will need the thicher O-ring

IF you put in a Melling Oil pump, use the BLUE spring - the Melling pump comes w/ a RED spring installed and w/ a BLUE spring if you want lower oil pressure - TRUST ME, you want to put the BLUE spring in the melling pump BEFORE you install it - how do I know, well, I didn't do that, and I get 65 PSI at 2500 w/ engine warm, and the PSI goes UP, WAY UP from there - so guess what I get to do

+1 on the thicker O-Ring. As you can see from these pics the oversized ring fills the gap much better.

Sounds good...

Dont know if I want to use the melling pump or not yet. Seems like it has more flow capacity than the stocker which would be why it makes so much more pressure. Not sure if I am going to use a ported LS6 pump with a high pressure spring or the melling with the low pressure spring. Decisions, decisions...

The larger o ring is for truck style pickup tubes. I went through the same thing you are and I finally called melling's tech support.

What did they tell you, and what did you end up getting?

Where did you hear that? TSB #02-06-01-038 indicates it's for Y-Bodies also.

Yep, I've got the same noise in my 03' Anniversary vert. I have a GM extended warranty. I wonder if the dealer will just replace the O ring or the whole motor. David
