Default Mod it or am I asking for trouble

My LS1 has 95k on it. Want to do cam swap, new intake and throttle body. Is is smart to do with these miles or am I asking for trouble. Is the bottom end going to hold up? Or is it better to do entire motor ? Would like your opions please.

Thanks

I think most will tell you go for it! If the engine is running well and not burning oil it should still be good for a long time. Many people see 200k with the LS1 engines.

Yes. 95k isn't that bad, especially if it has always been taking care of. Cali car too?

My advice, go for it with the mods. I would suggest staying away from NOS with that mileage, but that's just my opinion.

miles are not a form of measurement for engines, engines do not travel distances. Like an engine in a 3.42 geared car will have turned over way more many times than one in a 2.73 geared car. Too many variables. Its all in how the car was cared for and driven. remember 1000 miles is 4000 1/4 mile passes. or 1000 miles on the freeway at 1800 rpms?? Two opposite ends of the spectrum both representing "miles".
Like the above said...these engines run like new at 100k.
Mines got 150k and will soon get a cam and some head work.

I also interested in this subject, as I am new to the vette crowd. It seeks like corvettes are pretty reliable, even modded.

My friends Vette had 110K on it put in a G5X3 and made 415 rwhp. Go for it. It might even help you a little when you put new seals and all the other stuff that comes along with the cam swap. Good Luck!

As long as the engine is doing fine, go for the mods.

Depending on what cam you install, you will probably replace pushrods, rockers, oil pump, timing chain, etc... so essentially you will have a lot of new engine parts.

If you have the money for a new engine though, that would be fun!!

Go for it!!

My '98 has 82K on it and I just had POWERHOUSE PERFORMANCE in Tinley Park IL. do a H/C-Z06 intake-ported oil pump-comp lifters-hardened push rods-double roller timing chain. Lots of new parts, and it runs very good. I am very pleased with the increase in performance. GO FOR IT! It's like being a kid at Christmas again.

Mod it, but fair warning, once you begin it doesn't stop and you will want more and more and more.... and your head will begin to but your face will look like

It's no more / not much more risky at 95k then it is at 20k mi.

I wouldn't do it if you like to take your car on the road course, the aftermarket stuff is not as reliable. In general, I don't think a heads/cam car is as reliable as a stock design, there are inevitably issues.

If you do it, be very, very careful of the parts selection. Pay special attention to valve spring and pushrod selection. Valve springs must be rated for the cam you pick by the cam manufacturer. If it's a big cam, you might end up swapping out springs every 20k mi.
