Default About rotors...

I was looking through the service records for my 97 and saw that the rotors were replaced by the dealer just before the car ran out of warranty in 2000. The pads were not replaced according to the records.

Lately I have noticed mild vibration (warped rotor style) when braking and last night the reminder tabs started squeaking at low speed.

My questions are:
Will replacing the pads alone help the vibration issue? I'm thinking no on this one.

Is it worth trying to get the rotors turned, or should I just replace them?

If I replace the rotors, which brand is best for the price? I'm not planning on racing the car, I just want the cheapest rotors that aren't going to warp again in a year. I found some Aimco rotors for a pretty reasonable price, are they any good?

Is it the general consensus that GM rotors are virtually worthless?

Thanks,
Seth

BTW, to anyone who read my AC compressor thread- With the help of a friend I got the new compressor, dryer, and oriface on there. It seems to work find but I think I am going to have the system professionally vaccuumed and charged when summer rolls around.

Seth: I had 33,000 miles on my original GM rotors.. they had .001 runout..no warp and I had 40% of the pad surface remaining.. I replaced them With Eradispeed rotors from Baer and hawk pads.... just for the look..
The trick with rotors is proper seasoning ( breaking -in ) . I suggest you go to Baer's website and look at their tips on proper seasoning of Rotors.. and bedding of Pads... I see nothing wrong with GM Rotors for street use..
I think they are around 90 dollars a piece.. If money is tight ... you need to see how bad the run out is on your rotors.. and see if turning them will fix the problem... BUT .. with less mass.. breaking in the rotors after machining becomes even more critical..
Good Luck

Replace with stock replacements, clean off the mounting surfaces well and torque evenly, and they'll work great. I use them out on the road course. They're $50 apiece shipped from Chris at Team Chevy, so there's no reason to machine.
