I am installing cometic head gaskets on my new motor. I have heard that a some people are spraying the gaskets with copper seal as a safety measure. I wanted to get some opinions on doing this.. I just don't want to have to pull the heads back off. I know that everything has to be very flat and clean, but if there is an added safety precaution I would like to do it now.
Thanks!

I hear that they are not that great. Some are going back to the GM gasket with good results..my $.02
I am running around 12.1 comp with ETP Heads and forged lower with Cometics and not one leak or problem. It certainly would not hurt to spray the copper coating. These are quality gaskets and if your block and heads are straight, you shouldn't have any problems.
I was researching the same thing when I was doing my h/c but couldn't get an answer before it was time to put the heads on. I put mine on 36k miles ago, without being sprayed, and have had 0 issues. The copper spray would add a layer of reliability if you were not confident in the flatness of your deck or heads, or also if you were going FI. Some people don't like the cometics, but I can't seem to find anyone with a horror story. If I were going to do it again I would spray them. Hang them up by the small bolt hole pass throughs and give them a good even coating, let dry.
The Cometic MLS (multi layer steel) are a quality product. I sprayed mine with permatex copper and they sealed fine on a sleeved motor. They come from Cometic coated on the sealing surfaces with viton rubber, it looks like black paint, the copper coat will help fill any irregularities you might have created during the head swap.
