Default Wow that reverse thing worked (Sorta)

I have a 98 Vert and I thought my hand brake was pretty loose and useless. I would pull up on it and nothing seemed to happen.

Then I read a post where you go in reverse and pull it three times.

Wow! It worked. That tightened up the hand brake immensly.

I'm not sure it was a perfect solution. If I am stopped at a light, the handbrake will now keep the car from rolling forward, but I'm not sure what would happen if I had to use it for an emergancy stop.

It is MUCH better but not great.

Anyone have any other tips?

Being called an “Emergency Brake” is an old misnomer. It is aptly called a “Parking Brake”. :yes

Glade it helped you out though!

Clean and regrease the handle assembly internal parts. The old dried up dirty grease inside is causing the parts to stick and not self adjust as designed. The best way is to remove the handle assembly so all the crud can be cleaned out with a solvent and then regreased with a good grease such as Mobil 1, you won't believe the difference when this is done.

I believe it is not an option on the 2004 model and that you must manualy adjust re tighten everything.

Excellant! I'll give it a shot.

Pull the rear rotors, and there's a small adjustment wheel for the pads. Adjust the pads outwards til the rotors are hard to put on, and you'll be set.

I went from no ebrake whatsoever to screaching tires in a matter of an hour or so.

What post is this you speak of? What are the details of the adjustment? I'd like to tighten mine alittle more without removing the wheels again.
