Brake Caliper Bolts
Has anyone heard about the brake caliper bolts being Torque to Yeild (TTY) and having to replace them once removed. I've never replaced them, I just thought they have a nylon patch (like painted on Loctite) and could be reused.
GM recommends they be replaced everytime they are removed but there is nothing that says they are torque to yield. I haven't had any fail yet and I pull them off several times a year.

Thanks for the reply. My friend's GTO (apparently uses Corvette brakes) manual specifically states they are TTY. Maybe they just do some things different "Down Under".
GM tells you to replace them because new ones have the locktite painted on them and they are concerned that people using the old ones will forget to put locktite on them. No need to replace them.

I had a caliper bolt snap on me during an autocross... can you say FLATSPOTTED 710!!!! : ..and they were the original. So! I guess there is a threshold on when you should place them.
don't you no no me. I'm swapping tires out for various events once or twice a month, and I get an up close and personal inspection of brake items. I've never so much as seen even a slight loosening of those bolts. But you can do whatever floats your boat.

And none of these up close and personal inspections revealed the use of loctite? I'm just saying that if you do plan to use Loctite and remove the bolts at some point, maybe blue would be a better choice than red. Chill my friend! If you are inspecting your bolts twice a month, then maybe not using loctite on the slider bolts is fine for you, but for the average Joe I think using loctite is a prudent move. What didn't you understand about my comment?
And Chevrolet says to NEVER reuse that bolt once removed... I'll bet you don't replace your bolts when you remove them, do you?
That's a no no! Back at 'cha!
According to a GM engineer and one of our forum vendors, the reason they want you to replace the bolts is because the new ones come with Loctite on them and they want to be certain it is used. When Loctite is used, it is not necessary to use new bolts according to the engineer. I don't replace my bolts because I am always certain to re-apply the Loctite. Are you having some type of crisis here where you need to strike out at a fellow forum member? If so, grow up and be a good forum citizen!
He's probably still bent out of shape about his oil cooler install..

no, just don't need a dialog about how wrong it is to run a bolt without loctite. You started that dialog after I disclosed the reason why I didn't use loctite. We can end that dialog just as soon as you drop it, Mr. Know it all.

I had to play around with the hose routing for another half hour today... in spite of all my efforts I still couldn't keep the lines away from the headers...
I think I have it all ironed out now though. I'll post the final pics later, after I've cooled off a bit...and I'm sure I'll be in a better mood then.
