Default Z06 Air Intake questions

I have an '03 Z06.

I was thinking about getting a Halltech Stinger. As I understand, I would then have to get a different MAF or get a computer tune or the compute will have problems with this setup and throw codes. Is this correct?

How about a Blackwing and a High-Flow Power Duct. Would this work without other modifications?

How about the K&N FIPK Kit?

Would any of these made a noticeable difference on a daily driver with the occasional spirited driving?

Yes, many 02-04 Z06 owners who have installed aftermarket intakes without swapping in a screened MAF or getting a dyno-tune have reported lean codes. Although I am not certain, I would expect that any one of the intakes mentioned has the potential of causing a lean code condition in a screenless-MAF Z06. Whether gaining 8-10 RWHP is worth the cost of an intake and dyno-tuning is up to you. I gained a bit more because I started out with the VERY restrictive coupe/vert airbox.

I did the K&N on mt z with no tuning or other changes to the maf. I also did a corsa exhaust. I dont think without new exhaust you will notice anything in your butt although it sounds like you are going faster!

It may also depend somewhat on your altitude where you'll be primarily driving the car after the modification. I'm at 5,200 ft altitude. I cut my shroud and installed a BLACKWING and SLP "ice box" cover (CAI) on my Z16. I got intermittent codes that drove me nuts. I could've driven the 500 mile round trip to the nearest tuner/dyno and spent another $500 which probably would've eliminated the problem.
In the end, I decided it wasn't worth the money and effort. I don't have any other modifications nor plan any. I removed the system and modified my oem Z06 air intake with an enlarged opening. I improved the oem with a drop in K&N filter and smooth throttle body bellows. It doesn't look as sexy as an after market system, but I notice no difference in performance and get no codes now.
