A while back I smacked a sign with my passenger side front fender, between the door and the wheel. Shattered part of the fender, the computer brackets and the vacuum canister.
Since then, my AC blows half and half between the defrost vent on the dash and the vents. It still blows cold, but not the way it should. Battery was disconnected for weeks during a H/C install, but the problem still exists.
Would somone walk me through a process of elimination? So far I have done all my own work and want to keep the streak alive so to speak. Just looking for some starting points or an idea of what may be the culprit.
There's a vacuum line that runs from under the MAP sensor on the back of the manifold around the back of the motor and down under the battery area. If you tore up the computer mounts, it's a good bet that you broke that line. If that line isn't hooked up, there's no vacuum signal on the A/C switching lines, and thus it will default to a "all vents" mode.
I know because when I swapped my LS6 manifold on, I forgot to hook up that vac line under the MAP sensor.
Sounds like your missing vacuum to the HVAC control head. Vacuum controls the vent doors. Your going to need to see if you have vacuum from the intake manifold to the reservoir.
Great pictures Bill, the purple vacuum line in the last picture is where the supply line running from the plastic canister (accumulator) under the front fender would connect to, what you need to do is start the engine and connect a vaccum gauge to the hose that connects to the purple line to see how much vacuum your getting, I'll bet there is none.
You could also just closely inspect the vacuum lines around that area, since you had some damaged parts you may have broken one of the vacuum lines.
When ever I go to Carlsile, I take my camera and take pics of stuff that we dont normaly see. That guy only wanted $100. for that HVAC unit. If it wasnt for the car already being full of other COOL stuff, I would have grabbed it!
