Default Water Pump

Anyone ever hear about the water pump coming apart? It does seem like the Radiator is much cooler than the engine even after installing a new T-stat?

may seem like a dumb question, but is there any information/ pictures on the thermostat change procedure ? I couldnt really find a thread where it is detailed on the forum.

im having the same problem on my 99 stock engine coupe. it will shoot up to 260 real quick and then back down to 203 or so like it usually runs. i do have an oil change warning showing tho, and had that planned for tomorrow anyway. We think its possily the thermostat whick is a very simple fix. or it could be the temp sensor, b/c of how fast the temp guage is moving. There is no way that the h2o temp could change from 260 to 205 in seconds, just not possible. i read the thread on the clogged radiator, a possibility but prolly not. So tomm morn i will change oil, new thermostat, new temp sensor, flush radiator and report back.

And all this stress is on top of me taking a 750 mile trip from texas to iowa on thursday!!

I had the EXACT same problem with my 01. I changed my water pump and now it's fine. In my case, the pump bearing was going out.

Default Bad Water Pump 02 Over Heat Prob

Well they put a new pump in and problem is gone. I want to take the old pump apart to see what failed. I'll let everyone know when I do. Thanks for all the good suggestions.

ok my car ran fine all morn and like 15 miles no problems. So i changed the oil and installed a new thermostat(180 stock temp) and new coolant. drove a lil while and while idling thru a parking lot it overheated again. the temp needled goes from 205 straight to 260 and stayed there. But i think it is something electrical. like a short or something. cuz it heats up way too fast. then the car would idle funny, "check guages" would flash and A/C turns on and off. The car doesnt steam or loose coolant to the ground. and the oil temp guage says 208-212, which should be the same as the coolant temp.WTF??

Has anything like this ever happened to anyone?? any help with a bad ground or simular symptoms would be great. thanks

HOLY CRAP! I cannot beleive this post! If my car was getting 226*, I would be freaking out! I guess this is normal for the vette? In my Grand Prix GT or my 454SS pickup, I have never seen temps over 210*. What I am saying is I guess I am not use to seeing temps this high. Glad I read this post.

thanks, i was to replace the sensor but figured it was good b/c it works properly most the time. When this happens the DIC say "coolant temp xxx" has anybody seen that before? and the oil temp sstays at about 203-210 during all of this.

I never believe any of that 100,000 mile or 5 year stuff for coolant, spark plugs or filters etc. It's all too cheap not to change it. I at least cut it in half for time or miles.
Proof again........

Today i did replace the engine temp sensor. Which was very easy for the DIYer. So far so good, only more driving will tell if the problem persists. Thanks everyone.

This morning, I took my car in for repairs. They told me its a faulty pump. They will replace the thermostat as well. Estimate $670.
Lets hope thats the end of that.

So I havent got my car back yet. I am also wondering how you would know if its just a bad thermostat vs. a bad water pump ? The coolant wasn't circulating in the car and that could be due to either couldn't it ?

Any opinions ?

Thanks!!
