Hi guys! I have had this problem since I got this car last fall. It seems that the gas pedal is over sensitive, it is hard to start out without over reving or killing it. When it's cold it hunts and that makes it worse. There are no vacuum leaks or intake air system leaks. I have a MAF translator and any setting change makes it hunt more.
I took it to a local speed shop and they replaced the plugs and wires, $600.00 later it still does the same thing. Could it be related to the TPS or maybe the gas pedal assy? Thanks for your help!!
Before you start "ditching" anything, perform the check in the service manual for the throttle position sensor. Also, if you took it to the local speed shop to fix this problem, and it still does the same thing, they need to fix the problem, and reinsburse you for changing the parts you didn't need. At the very least, you pay for the parts, they eat the labor. It's they're problem, not yours.
if you remove the air bridge; you can then look directly in to the throttly body. Have someone else sit in the drivers seat - key in "on" but the engine not running - and watch the action of the butterfly plate.
here is a video I took of it in action; with steady (but slow) movement of the gas pedal from idle to WOT, and back:
They said they did some diognostics too, but did not find anything. I installed the MAF translator afterwards and it made no diff. untill I changed the base settings. so I took it out. Still runs the same. Is there any tension changes you can make to the gas pedal? It seems very lite.
Have you tried the idle relearn procedure? It is a five minute procedure and is simple. Just do a search on the forum for the directions. For a 6 speed you are suppose to turn the car on and let idle in neutral with the air off for about 5 minutes and then turn the car off. Wait 30 seconds and then recrank the car. Viola you are done. I think the directions for an automatic is slightly different.
Update: I tried the idle re-learn and looked at the throttle plate for smooth movement, no problem there. I removed the MAF translator and no help. It hunts when it's cold right after I let off the gas pedal and does the same after its warm when I let off the gas. It does it for about 3 or 4 times and then smooths out. grrrr!!! other than this it runs perfectly. I may have to take it back to Doug Rippie.
Please get that car out to us now!!! I don't remember the car right of hand. But I know someone else has been playing around. We don't use any MAS gimmicks or anything crazy like that. We have sold a lot of head and cam packages mailorder so it maybe one of those cars. Did you change the wheels??? Please give me a call and we will be more then happy to take a look at it.

the problem may be elsewhere; and the sensitive throttle might be just a side-effect of the real problem. Might even be a leak in the air intake system.
Just as an extra thought, check out the PCV valve and especially the pcv hose to manifold. They are prone to developing a hole on the bottom of them where you can't see.
