No this is NOT about my 1999! A friend has a car he got from carmax (1999 coupe 6 spd), that now has all the dash dummy lights going on when he starts the car (and they stay on unless he shuts it down and re-starts it). He also mentioned that he thinks the car has some "motor work" done poss H/C.Also has trouble w/ power windows not working properly until he re starts. I'm trying to get the codes from him.
So far I told him to go back to carmax and try to find out what was done to the car i.e. cam specs, exhaust etc. I also told him he should be pretty pissed off at them and to complain bitterly!
He originally came to me asking if I could get him a good price on a new PCM, but I warned him that he may have custom programming so swapping PCM would hurt more. The dealer may refuse to service car or worse flash back to stock! Any serious suggestions?
The guy just came over to me nearly in tears, so I'm just kinda reachin' f/ straws. I'm throwing out the symptoms and appreciate any input or direction---thanx Max
Check out the "electrical information" sticky from Bill Curlee. He is the real expert on these electrical stuff. The main thing is that the C5 is fairly complex electrically, and can misbehave badly in to main cases: 1) bad grounds (all of them are listed in the Bill stick) and 2) a bad battery.
Check it out and post more info and pics we will try to help.
