Default ZO6 Power and Time Question.

Say you were to buy an 01 Z. How much power to the wheels would you gain adding the LG motor sports headers and X (street version) and borla straights. These headers would have no catalytic converters also. Add a B&M short throw for a quicker shift. What would be some of the times this car could achieve. I know the car ran, what 13.00 through a 1/4 stock? Shouldn't I dip into the low 12's. The reason for no air mods is because this would be termporary till I could get the A&A system installed. I just ponder this before a cobra or something of that nature pulls beside me of if I can get him with those few mods before the big install.

Another comment, What do you guys think of the prices on this market around here. Most 01 Z's in perfect condition with 25000-35000 miles are going for 28000-30000. 28000 is around bluebook on these with NADA. Are those numbers about right?

Each car will have its own character when adding mods. A friend has Longtubes/ORX/exhaust and tune and is putting 377 to the ground in his QS 01. Easily in the low 12's or high 11's with the Driver mod!

Also with the onset of Spring and Summer, the prices for sports cars will tend to remain higher and firmer than say the winter months. I bought my 03 Z06 in the winter for ~$30,000 with 29k on the clock. So it also pays to keep your eye open and be selective about what you want.

Get the maintenance history as well, to see if the car you are considering has any of the "character features" of its model year. Some 01's can be prone to consuming oil, etc.

Overall you can't go wrong with a Vette, IMHO. YMMV.

I read somewhere that the ZO6 manifolds vs. headers are not much difference. Very small gain if any.

Maybe against shorty headers, but the longtubes by default will give you a longer exhaust pulse, and much more ability to scavenge.

And at what RPM does this actually gain HP? 6500+?
Im going to do the heads and cam on my car and see what I can push out of the factory manifolds. I might pick up a set of ZO6 manifolds for cheap and go that route.

If you put a set of LG/LTs on the car and high flow cat you should pick up around 30 whp .

If you do a heads and cam swap , then put the headers on you should see more of a gain like 35-40 depending on the cam .

A cam with a long exaust duration and lift will see better gains from the LTs by letting the car breath better .

Hmm. Sounds like I'll just have to watch what I am doing on purchasing the car. I'm sure I can find a deal somewhere. So far as adding heads and cam, I'd rather just spend 6100 for a supercharger and tune and get 500RWHP or a little more with the exhaust mods. Not only does it bring out good power, but better gas mileage under tame driving. But I do have to say, I would love to hear a nice bump stick making my car's fenders shake.
