Low oil light on????????
Thanks
It's not unusual for the C5 to burn a little oil in the first 10,000 miles or so. Some, like mine burn a lot more than that. If your DIC is telling you that the oil is low, add oil - a full quart, soon!
As to when you should change the oil for the first time, it's been the recommendation around here to change the oil every 3000 miles or so and not wait until the DIC tells you to make the change.
I hope this helps.

Did you check the oil level with the Dip Stick. That's the old fashion way to see how much oil is in the crankcase. If it's at the full mark there's no need to add oil, and there is probably a problem with the sensor that reads oil level. If the oil level is low, by all means, add enough oil to bring it up to the full mark on the Dip Stick.
I bought a used 3000 GT-VR4 once and when I got it home I checked the oil and had to add 2 quarts of oil to bring it up to the full mark. Some guys and dealers do a terrible job maintaining their cars. Better keep close attention on the oil level for a while untill you're sure you don't have an oil consumption problem. Hope all goes well for you. :yesnod:
Keep track of your oil consumption and document it. A lot of C5's use oil because of a combination of 2 things:
1st the rings used prior to July 02' aren't as strong and can cause "blow by" which is what consumes the oil.
2nd is a driving condition that causes the 2nd ring to "flutter". This happens when the engine has high RPM's and low throttle. I had to scratch my head on that until I realize that I do this a lot when I use the M6 to slow the car approaching stop lights.
Another element is that GM built the LS1 loose to help get better fuel economy. By loose I mean the the piston size tolerances are at the small end and the clyinder size is at the high end of the tolerance. This may be a factore in why you stock engine has such great horsepower. Loose also means more hp...but can create other issues such as oil consumption.
