Default Anyone here good with Jeeps?

Sorry, not C5 related and since we don't have a Jeep section on here I figured I would ask you guys

I'm getting really pissed off at mine. 6 months ago I had an intermittent low RPM (1500-2000) stumble. Did plugs, wires, cap, rotor and the problem was solved, the old distributor cap was kinda nasty and worn underneath, so it ran like a champ with a new one on there. The other day it started acting stupid again, and since I had a warranty on the wires I changed them again, and switched my spark plugs to a different kind. Nothing. Tonight I pulled the cap and rotor off, and they both had some corrosion so I ran to Murrays (gotta love 24 hour parts stores) and replaced them both. Still missing. Any ideas? When I pulled the plugs they still looked pretty new, too new almost. They should be golden brownish but these were still pretty white. What would you guys check next? It's a 99 with a 4.0, about 112K on it which for a 4.0 is nothing. I have noticed if I pop it in neutral it revs fine, but when I am in gear it accelerates goofy and jumps until I get above 2 grand, then it is fine. Then since I cruise about 1700-1800 @ 45 mph, it bucks and acts stupid there sometimes too.

I know lots about jeeps but....I'm in the same boat when it comes to that kinda stuff.

Did you check for engine codes?

Have you thought about running fuel injector cleaner in it?

Another forum you could check:

Good Luck!

Mike

Haaaaa,,, I just got a 98 Wrangler 4.0! Two or three years ago, I wouldnt have given you 5 cents for a Jeep! Now I have FOUR~

As for the 99, as recommended above,,check for codes. I would also check the CAT and make sure it is NOT plugged up. Next, check fuel pressure. If you dont have a hand held scanner for OBDII,, go to autozone and they will read it for free!

Mine was running very strange and I changed the plugs, wires cap and rotor. My distrubator screws were frozen in place so,,, I had to do some CUSTOME work to fix the distribuator housing. The tune up helped but, I did a seafoam treatment in the tank and down the TB and it runs a LOT better.

Im with you all the way on this one. If the post gets locked, PM me!

I have an 84 90, 91 and a 98. I purchased a 97 for my son to presuade him to graduate. It needed work (lots of work) and became one withe the Wranglers. Theres a Jeep forum that works a lot like corvette forum.

Please let me know what you find.

Oh,,yea,, one more thing. Do you know what the JEEP acronim stands for? JEEP = Just Empty Every Pocket

Lol, It's been here all day I don't think it will get locked. As it turns out my problem was caused by a bad oxygen sensor, it runs great now. The Jeep wave caught me off guard, now all I need is a Harley and I will have all the "wave" vehicles!
