Sulfur in the fuel makes deposits on the sensor potentiometer which detergents like Techron or Seafoam remove. Leaving the deposits out of the wet fuel lets the deposits harden. I don't think BP has a detergent comparable to Techron even though it is a good fuel. Adding the detergent to a mostly empty tank to be sure it is carried over to both tanks will help.

which has the lowest sulfer rating? I have around me BP, mobil, shell, phillips, marathon, thorton. which would you recomend?
sorry didn't see the link.....i see shell on there and heard a lot of guys were having the problem with the shell gas......
I had the gauge drop on me one time, many moons ago (at least 6 yrs). Filled tank, and problem hasn't happen since. I use Mobil, almost exclusively. Have never used Chevron or tried the Techron additive.

I buy fuel at Costco, Mapco, and Kroger. About every 8 weeks, I put a couple bottles of Techron (that I also buy at Costco) in the tank when it is almost empty. THEN I fill the tank. This puts the cleaner over into the passenger side tank. I had a problem with the indicator dropping from about 3/4 full to zero suddenly. After a couple of treatments with Techron, the problem went away. Chevron and Texaco contain Techron but there aren't any stations near me. Using one of these fuels is the least expensive way to treat the fuels since even buying the Techron at Costco for about $10 for 4 bottles is like adding 15 cents a gallon to the fuel cost each time a bottle is added. Two bottles like I use adds about 30 cents a gallon for a fill up, so you can see if you can find Chevron or Texaco at a competitive price, it is less expensive in the long run.
