At what speeds should we shift? Cause it seems like 1st and 2nd take forever to get to 4500+ rpms

I dont think doing 60 in 2nd is correct lol

I don't know if it's different for Z06's and regular C5 M6's but I know that the first gear in the Z top speed is 50mph , 2nd gear is 70mph, 3rd gear is 100mph, and i forget 4th and 5th are.

Here's the thing.... While driving in "D", stepping on the gas will take you into 3rd, or 2nd depending on how hard you press, or where's your powerband. THIS will not hurt anything. These cars were made to run this way. Your 2nd gear will take you to 60-70 mph (in a Mn6 & A4). If and when the PCM shift for you, it won't hurt the tranny. However, if you shift manually (all the time), this WILL hurt the tranny. (I was told by a tranny rebuilder who rebuilt a AT tranny for me). But once in a while, if you shift manually to be in a certain gear/powerband, that would be ok though... I stick in into 3rd or 2nd when I'm ready to pass someone in a high traffic situation. Or on the freeway - into 3rd so I dont have to slam on the gas.

Since I like to drive the road to Sequoia Nat. Pk., I shift mine alot; both uphill and down.

I also generally baby the car...and have serviced the trans 2X in 25k miles. running a B&M cooler, and Dexron IV ATF.

Yet to any of my transmission fail.

My comments were baised on the conversation I had with RPM concerning MY stock trans. It`s probably best that you call them direct with your question regarding an "built" trans.

All I can tell you is that they (RPM) said I should down-shift from 4th to 3rd before flooring it in order to avoid going from 4th to 2ed which apparently is VERY hard on the trans.
