Default 3.73's in, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I had the 3.73's put in and I picked up the car tonight and all I can say is :D :D :D :D from ear to ear. Car got up over 100 real fast (EMPTY HIGHWAY;) ) . Amazing how much faster it revved or seemed to be and how quick I was going thru the gears. At 80-85 mph car is at 2000rpms in 6th, don't think it's much of a change. We shall see if "my seat of the pants feel" is correct at the track. I hope to best my times and hopefully my false knock issued is resolved. Car was pulling back timing 18 degrees and losing about 30rwhp and car was still running 11.8's@117. Seems the flywheel was causing false knock by vibrating and Cartek remedied the problem. Wish me luck!

Glad to hear that you got it installed!! :) I felt the same way when I had that Mod added to my car... the engine does wind up fast and you have to shift before you are ready. In 6th gear you are only turning 100 rpm faster than before so... you are still getting great gas milage!

Rob I won't be able to hit the track this week, Weds and Fri I work. Sat and Sun of next week I'll be driving this BABY up to Cape Cod for the weekend.I'll have the car at work tonight and I get off at 10pm, I'll call you. I went to Ave P last night to play around but it was all imports. With these gears and the street tires this baby just lights them up forever, traction is going to be an even bigger issue with these gears.

What did you use for a speed calibration?

Nilla, from what I understand the sensor recalibrates itself or something like that. I don't think anything had to be changed, but then again I really dont understand the whole thing, LOL.

Now you got me wanting these gears!! :)

I have been thinking a lot about them the past few weeks since I have seen the prices down in an affordable range. I think they would work excellent for pulling me out of corners on an autox or roadcourse!

Maybe this winter!

Glad to hear they are workin great for ya.

It'll be tough to hook drag radials if that's what you had previously used. E.T. Streets might be necessary. I'll bet it feels like a longer gas pedal/matching the powerband with the gears.

Congrats on the gears!

Nope, doesn't recalibrate. I'd have to check the numbers, but I'd guess he's 5% off or so on the speedo. Think it reads too fast now? I can say it doesn't recalibrate.

Ok, from what I understand I might need to recalibrate, did not know this. Anyway on the highway doing bout 70mph and passing cars at good rate. Speedo doesn't look like it's way off, maybe at higher speeds, not sure though. Also the gears make my 5th gear more usable and the car picks up speed in 6th pretty good, which I couldn't do with the 3.42's. I don't know if my car is faster from a 70mph roll on, MY00C5 rode with me and says that it pulls hard and feels faster. He also treated me to a ride in his car with a 75 shot of the laughing stuff, WOW talk about NECKSNAPPING torque. My neck hurts, his car is rocket!!!!!!!!

If you have a 6 speed, no re-calibration is necessary. The speedo runs off a gear/sensor in the dif.

Automatics are a different story due to shift speeds, etc.

I have tested mine a number of times and it is on the money. Tire size is a different story. That will throw your speedo off.

After the installation of my 3.73 gears I was worried about the speedo being wrong. I have checked mine two ways. The first thing I did was run my car at various speeds from 5mph to 105mph with a GPS system in my car. The speedo was NEVER off by more than 1 mph at any time. The second way I checked my car was to drive alongside JT4FUN's new 2001 during a trip to So. Cal. and check our HUD's for speed variation. No matter what speed we ran I was not more than 1 MPH off his HUD reading.

So in conclusion... without computer calibration in a 6 speed equipped C5, your speedo will never be more than 1 MPH off with the 3.73 gears.

vetterdstr

BTW, I found out that my 2000 Chevy 1 ton Crew Cab Dually with a 454, HD 4 speed auto & 4.56 gears is off by 3 MPH @ 60MPH. :cry Straight out of the Factory! :bs

Mark your car pulls really strong now. You hooked a best of 1.78 with the 3.42's my guess is that at the next challenge you should see 1.68 -1.70 60 foot times and your car should run 11.4 @ 121. Get the hal shocks and you might see a tenth or two better :) Sorry I hurt your neck last nite...I had to keep the 75 shot jets in there and keep it tame to prevent us from hitting warp speed :)
