Ok I have a 98 C5 I want to get a programer to get a edge at the track and my choises are a Hypertect unit or the Granatelli Big G ,has anyone bought one of these and is one better than the other I need some good input!
These are the only units out there that will tune my 98 unless someone knows something I don't know?
HELP?
I used the Hypertech on my 97. I was one of the first adopters and got it as part of their Beta test program. Had the program loaded into the PCM for a year. Before and after dyno tests showed a net gain of 2 HP. That is well within the 1% error of the Dyno Jet dyno so there is no way to tell whether it was dyno variation or result of the programmer without doing a lot of dyno runs to average out the dyno error. I used it mainly to control fan turn on and to raise my rev limiter which it did well but overall there was no real benefit.
So no one thinks that these units can change the shift points like the say they can? I am not to worry about raising my rev limiters because that out of the zone for my horse power anyway so I have been told.
I just want to get it to shift a little faster and harder when I am racing it.
It would be nice to change my fan's on race day
First, you might want to complete your profile so we can see particulars about your car. I assume you have an A4. That being the case, the Hypertech will change shift points and also the firmness of the shift. I have one and am satisfied with what it's done for my car. As Bill Dearborn mentioned, it's also good for changing cooling fan settings and raising the rev limiter. Don't expect miracles, though.
