Default Trap speeds...some one explain?????????

Just made two passes down the track ( really crowded today) Any way.....
temps in the upper 60's, very little wind.

RT=.502 :D
60'=1.808
1/8=8.170 MHP=85.32
1000'=10.674
1/4=12.797 MPH=106.96

I usually trap around 108-110 MPH.............So why is it so low? Haven't changed a thing all year.........so don't say engine temp..what else would lower the trap speed????? Just curious :confused:

Unless it's a typo, that 1.808 is an outstanding short time.

Checked the Cincy weather and the humidy (58 percent) and the barometer (30.05) with the temp you cited would mean the density altitude was favorable.

So if the car was behaving normally and the gas was what you normally run, them some folks will conclude that the tracks timing system was erratic. At one of our local track, a typical night means someone runs over the timing lights at least once. Thereafter the readings tend to be off.

Was your other run similarly "lower" than usual?

Being your sig shows a 12.575@109.431 and this one is .8 longer would be one of the reasons also maybe :

Maybe you lifed a tad sooner and track records topend 66 feet after the finish line.

Running a bit lean, which would lower WOT timing and torque, would cost you on topend.

T.C and A4 not at a best tune and during run torque management or slip functions were getting triggered causing Torque convertor to be in/out of driveline.

More rolling resistance for some reason.

Track timing gear not calibrated.

If you recorded your runs with a PCM scanner, should tell you, esp if A4 functions were monitored.

I agree.........I ran my car lean a few times this summer, and it was off 2-4mph. :cheers:

Thanks for all the replies :yesnod: I was thinking lean also........ This was probably one of my better runs cinsidering the R/T and the short time.....Even the1/8 was decent....but the car didn't seem to be making any power. Seemed like it crappep out at the end of the run.

The first run, which I didn't want to discuss as I started out in second gear :smash: ( don't even ask :nono: ) was as follows..................
R/T=.754
60'=2.066
1/8=8.868 MPH=84.11
1/4=13.533 MPH=107.84

So how do I get a bad launch, bad 1/8th, bad 1/4...........but More MPH!
:confused: I'm just not getting this????????????

I think It's time for Cam and Heads. Then you can try to figure out, why did I go 115 mph and not 117 mph :lol:
I still don't know why my trap speeds at BG were so much higher than Tristate :confused:

Ditto that! Last tue 43* at the track, I pulled 3 runs in the 1.7's... With a best 60' of 1.752 :yesnod: The usually slippery track was hooking great-I was able to stall the converter 2000-25000rpm :eek:

No one else has mentioned this that I saw, so it must not be correct...but my guess would in fact be your quick short time. With such a quick 60' I'm guessing you bogged a little more than on your 2.0x run. You got to the 60' mark quicker, but since you bogged and were under the torque curve farther, you were going slower. This has been my observation. Often times spinning out of the hole will yield big mph (albeit slow ETs). My .02

good observation.........but it didn't bog at all...............as a matter of fact the 13 sec run was started off in 2nd gear ( My mistake :rolleyes: ) so when I hit it the car really bogged................slapped it back into 3rd and it took off. I'm just used to being around high 108--low 110 trap speeds when I run Mid 12's. :mad I wish I would have auto tapped this run..........
