I just bought a 2001 Coupe with a glass top and there is about a 4" wide section from front to rear on the passenger side that is peeling. It is the outside coating. What is this material and can it be refinished? And yes, I did a search but didn't find anything about it. Any suggestions appreciated.
Yes they can. Mine was very bad, peeling all over the passenger side. Richard(C5vetteLS1) wanted to try to sand and re clear the tops, to see if it could be done. So, I was the test subject...let me tell you he made it look brand new. He did an awesome job, actually looks better than new.

I'm surprised no one has called GM on the carpet about this. Random delamination I could understand; but when so many tops have the same passenger side delamination, there was clearly something wrong in the design or manufacturing process.
I will check with a bodyshop friend of mine and see if he can re-do it. I am assuming it is just clear coat that is peeling. If he can fix it I'll let you guys know. I'm sure he would appreciate the business. Or if all else fails, I guess I'll get it painted a stunning Sebring Silver!!!

Where did he get hte clear coat from, I sanded mine but it needs the coating now
i also have a glass top in the same condition, i am confuse, does it just need to spray the clear coat again, or does something else have to be done. i also thing that we should all get together and see if there away to get gm, to do a recall or a repair,
thanks
I've got the same thing on my '98 coupe on the passenger side. Seemed like about a 4 inch region just came off a little bit at a time. Can this be fixed at a dealer or a tint shop?
My 99 as well. Must be a way to dissolve the coating without melting the plexiglas. Then maybe just a simple window tint application on the INSIDE. Mine is looking so bad now that I might try it. I'll let you all know if it works.
