1999 body control module

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey guys,
Does anyone here know about the body control module for a 1999. Back in August of 2005 my wife drove my car ( my first mistake )and after shopping she got back in and the car would not start. No turning over, nothing. The trunk would not unlock, the convertible hatch would not release, no radio but the blower would go on, the windows would go down and the remote doors would unlock. I found that it was the Body control module that is at the passenger side behind the foot area wher the panel comes down. Now the same thing happened to me yesterday and I am thinking once again that it is the BCM. I am wondering if leakage from the AC could cause this unit to short out. For some reason the drain hose gets clogged up alot and at times I get rain water or AC water into that side of my car. I am hoping that someone knows a little about his and I am also looking probably to purchase another BCM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The last job cost me $800.00 and I am not crazy about spending that again when the part was replaced less than two years ago. I am in Myrtle Beach SC. Thanks Mike McGrath
I had this posted on the parts section originally. I am hoping someone here can give me some idea as to what may be happening with my car. This morning I called AAA and went to meet the flatbed to have my car towed and oddly enough it started right up. What could have been the problem. Could it be the AC overflow leaking onto the module ? It acted the same way it did when I had the BCM replaced 18 months ago. Now I am wondering if that even needed replacement before as I had it towed directly to a dealership. Is there anything else that could be causing the problem. I will have the drainage tube checked this week and cleaned out. Is it normal to have the AC leak into the car and behind the foot area on the passenger side. When the tube was really clogged up before the floor would get soaked when AC was on. Also when the AC is on and I take a left or right you can hear as if there is water spilling. It makes like a hissing noise but again only when the AC is on.
Anything that could be suggested would be great.
Thanks
Mike McGrath

welcome to the nightmare of GMs most poorly electrically engineered car in history. 99% of most electrical problems is a loose or dirty connection. Now in a car that should have been equipped from the factory with bilge pumps (mine leaks), dirty and corroded ground on these are common.
check the connections on your BCM, clean with electrical contact point cleaner. Theres also a Sticky at the top of the page with a diagramm for all the ground connections on the car you should clean. They are plug-in connectors that corrode.
My car is dead in the water as we speak also.

What a great forum..I have posted this on the parts page also thinking that I may need a BCM and I have gotten help form a few different sources. I will never go and have my car serviced again, aside from my oil changes, without first seeking out help from this great group.
Thanks for all the support !!

Is it nomal? NO!
Is it a common problem? YES!
If you've checked the threads I've posted in your previous thread, you will see that there can be several causes for water to leak in that area. It seem fairly certain that your problem is clogged AC drain tubes. You can clean these yourself if you have a set of ramps and follow Bill Curlee's instructions. He is generally considered to be "the man" on this forum, when it comes to electrical problems. The hissing noise you hear may be some of the water dripping on the hot exhaust. You need to fix the leaking problem, and get the carpet dried out or you will get a moldy smell in the car that you'll never get out unless you replace the carpet, not to mention the BCM problems.
This forum is a great source of info, and the archives have a wealth of information , so don't forget to search there. The dealer should be your last resort. If your a DIY guy, get yourself a set of repair manuals. Money well spent.

Here's a current thread with similar issues.
