Default is this supposed to be plugged?!!

I was changing my oil today and noticed this on the radiator that seems to be unplugged. This could be leaking coolant, and I didnt even know it. maybe this is why I would ge wifs of coolant every so often.

Looks to me where the temp sensor plugs in... Or perhaps the car had front end damaged and an auto radiator was put in a 6spd car....?

that I know of the car has never had any front end damage. It was a close cousin of mines, he never had any accidents. is there a possiblity that this could be leaking coolant?

That looks like the one of two ports for a transmission cooler for a C5 with an automatic. Your car is probably a manual trans and who ever replaced the radiator before you owned the car replaced it with one for an auto trans. It will cause you no harm to have those ports open. If they were a leak path you would hose out all of your coolant in a matter of minutes and overheat.

If I were you I would get a couple of plugs and close off the tranny cooler. They are cheap insurance.

If you were racing it, I would call it a free engine oil cooler.

It is the tranny cooler for an automatic. No big deal. Doesn't matter if it is plugged or not.
