Code P0704 Fixed....Cruise control back...for now.

so once again it was back to CF search once again. Also, to add to the mystery, the Cruise Control quit working.
I checked the Clutch System Switch the first time by doing a visual inspection and found it to be working OK (first mistake). This time once again, all the clues pointed back to the Clutch System Switch. This is the one that works off the clutch peddle and can be seen by removing the Black panel just above the driver’s feet.
This time I took a poke at the switch with my finger
and found it to be mounted half *** (loose) in its bracket. It seems that GM mounted the switch just at the limits so that if the switch backed off the slightest bit, the clutch peddle arm would not depress the plunger completely and it would quit making the proper connection. Making a small adjustment to the switch so that the clutch peddle requires a bit more travel before disengaging the cruise, I replaced it back into the bracket, hoping for the best
. Should this happen again, I will have to either modify the mount for a tighter fit or change the switch out.Hope this helps someone else that's having the same problem.

It happened after I replaced my master cylinder. I checked the connector and it was fine. Never use the CC but I'll take another look at its engagement today.

I'll have to look into this

Thanks to the poster for the suggestion...
I was getting the P0704 engine light, and my cruise wasn't working at all. I had my clutch master changed, and that was the cause of it. Apparenently, many shops don't pay too much attention to how they handle this switch. They either bump it while they are in there, or they partially disconnect it because it is in there way. Either way, the switch has to be repositioned to engage the switch plunger at the top. I never could get it right until I screwed it all the way in with the plunger all the way out, and let the clutch pedal set the switch by pulling the clutch pedal all the way out (up).
The biggest problem I have with it is that it is so darn wobbly. It really is a very poor design the way it is just sitting in there. I'm sure I could go back and silicone around it to firm it up, but it is working for now, and I know exactly how to fix it. Another key is that you can't even see it without removing the kick panel (I used the manual to make sure I didn't tare that thing off incorrectly). You have to remove the panel to see and adjust this switch.
This is a great topic.
