Pilot bearing question...
I have 2 different kinds....
One has grooves in the center of it and the other one is smooth inside
Which one is right or will they both work???
Thanks

Look at the grooved one closer... Are they needle bearings? There's 2 kinds that I've encountered, a solid brass one that is smooth inside and one that has bearings inside. If those grooves turn out to be bearings (look at it closely, you'll know) use that one.

I'm putting mine in right now, it has the bearings. Make sure it faces the right way.

You guys are right..... they are needle bearings. :thumbs
The thing is the other bearing is already installed in my short block.
Is it worth pulling it out ??
Which way is it supposed to face?

If you look at it, one side looks solid the other you can see the inner race for the bearings. The solid side with the inner taper faces out. If you need a photo, I can post one.

Thanks for the info...I understand what you mean.
I am wondering whether I should swap the bearing out or just leave it alone. It was installed by LPE.
What do you think??
BTW vettenuts what are you using as a guide for your tex install? I am doing one also.

sometimes different cranks will have a bushing for the pb(ie: eagle); I don't see a reason to anything other than a GM part, as noted the taper on the pb will face aft
if you need a guide, the supplied plastic alignment tool work well, or you spin up an alignment tool/pb install tool on the lathe

I got one on line and then modified it for my car.
Do you have your clutch yet? I am wondering about the instructions, or if there are any.

I would swap it just to have the GM manual version. Also, if you follow the manual their removal of the rear saddle is more complicated I think.

In pulled the motor (out the top) so I don't have to worry about that.
It's all together and waiting to be installed.Just need to bolt up the clutch.
