I just drained and serviced my transmission and I'm wondering if I put enough fluid into it. The service manual says to "fill it up to the bottom of the filler plug hole". Then further back it states "Manual Transmission (Overhaul) 4.1 quarts.
I put in 4.5 quarts with a pump and never saw any fluid come out of the filler plug, I did not fill it up all the way.
There is a NOTICE in the manual stating "Too much fluid will come out and fall onto hot exhaust causing a fire and too little will cause the transmission to overheat".
My question is if 4.5 quarts is enough or should I fill it up to the filler plug hole?
Is there a transmission fliud quantity sensor that would tell me if its too low? Thank you for your help!
I found out I was using the wrong filler plug. I was using the shift plug bearing assembly all the way on top right side of tranny. Did not know the tranny temp sensor was the filler plug. I ended up jacking it up again and undid the temp sensor plug at which point about 1 1/2 quarts drained out (drained to the proper level). Lesson learned.....hope this helps all others trying to service their manual transmission.
