I am looking at one of the after market LS7 based setups as an upgrade to my C5 Z.. (I have read horror stories about GM crate LS7's so am not even going to bother)
My main question is what parts would be the most important to get the same 7000rpm red line as the GM built LS7?
Would using the GM crank and Ti rods with forged JE's work?
I wouldn't even bother with the GM internal parts. Aftermarket forged internal parts will work fine. I would just by a short block or long block from whoever your favorite vendor is.
I'd say a well built shortblock will spin to 7K reliably. But, you will surely want to mention that point as a requirement to your engine builder. My 346 is set to 6700 now with no modifications to the stock bottom end.
I'd hazard to guess that the OE 427 can spin to 7K due to decreased reciprocating mass from the the Ti parts used.
