Default suggested valvetrain for this cam.

considering a cam swap on my 97 A4. Planning on the thunder racing 220/220 .551/.551 114 LSA. Was told it has excellent power witouth sacrificing drivability on street condiitons.

What valvetrain would best complement this setup?
Also what other engine hardware is needed to complete this kind of swap?

thanks.

Since its a 97, I would install:

LS6 oil pump
LS2 timing chain
New pushrods (hardened)
Upgraded valve springs
New valve seals

Options:

Timing chain damper (if the block is drilled for it)
Yella Terra (ultralight) or Scorpion rockers
Under drive pulley/harmonic balancer
Pin kit for the harmonic balancer

why the timing chain?
i was going to do a underdrive pulley setup, but i have a high output alternator that doesn't allow for an overdrive pulley attachment (and i need my current) .

The LS2 Timing chain is much stronger than the old LS1 timing chain. Even if you were to go to the dealership and ask for a LS1 timing they will give you an LS2 chain. As for the underdrive pulley Powerbond makes good one for a decent price. Stephen (EnglandGreen) put one on Tom's (Y2kvert4me) car when he installed the cam and it worked great. Hope this helps you out some.

I second the TR224 or something similar. The 220/200 is small.

i meant to type 224....I dont' know why i typed 220.

If i were to have a camshaft professionaly installed (with all the nessicary components) what's the price range i'd be looking at?

Have a professional shop install it and tune it. It will cost you between $750 to $1000 dependant upon local prices. If you dont have to have emmissions testing, do the TR224 on atleast a LSA 112. Its a nice little cam
