Default Increase reliability of my engine...

My 2000 coupe is my daily driver and occasional (2-4 per year) track car with HPDEs. I have done several simple mods to the car, exhaust, intake, tune, suspension stuff, catch can soon.

The tune bumped my rev limiter to 6200rpms. With the increase of my rev limiter and my high rpm use on the track, is there anything I can do to increase the reliability of the engine?

Thanks!

Adam

no worries, there's a few spares on the C5 displays ; 6200 is the factory set r/l, just keep the oil changed and drive it as much as possible, the ones that sit seem to have the most problems

A good cost effective upgrade would be better valve springs and pushrods.

Yes Adam. I agree with Steve. Change that oil often, with four events per year, change before each event, add an extra qt. Let the engine warm up for a few min before driving.

I think the best mods I have done to my car were the oil cooler accu-sump combo and the trans cooler. Both protect the engine and transmission.

I wouldn't have bumped the rev limit WITHOUT better valvesprings and pushrods.

They are definitely the weak links in a stock engine.

Thanks Tom,

Where can one buy a trans-cooler? What model # accusump do you have?

Adam,

with the pushrods and valve springs (I'd just go with the current yellow LS6 hardware). Gene at www.gmpartshouse.com can get you good prices.

Also, for your DE work, keep an eye on your oil temps. With the higher rev limit I think the oil temps will climb higher faster than you've seen before.

Finally, I've heard that the LS-1 rod bolts for our vintage engines start getting out of their safe zone above 6200 or so. Don't know if 6700 would be in a yellowish-orange or deep red part of the zone, though.

HTH, and have a good one,
Mike

^^

Heard that ARP rod bolts substantially improve reliability. If you make big improvements to handling capabilities I would also look into an Accusump to avoid oil starvation.

Forget LS6 springs, get some real valve springs like PRC duals, that way when you get a camshaft you wont have to mess with them. I wouldn't really worry about the rob bolts at that range, my last 2 LS1's had stock rod bolts with the limiters set at 6800 and I had no issues. For the amount of work you need to do to change the rod bolts you might as well do some other things while you are in there, should you choose to go that route

You dont have to get it changed, just dont shift it that high....

you can always get the valve springs as you go, etc..
