I got the high trans temp warning in the DIC yesterday running Spring Mt in 100 degree weather. Not surprising - but I then notice when I toggled through the 'gauges' on the DIC I suddenly had a Trans Temp guage. I was pretty sure that I had never seen this guage before and verified it later in the day when everything was cool. I toggled through the 'guages' and no Trans Temp guage page. I guess it only becomes active when its an issue? Any way to force it to stay on as an option?

YES Trans Temp will display It's on (#2) of the "GAUGES" button. Trans Temp is after the coolant temp.
Only cars fitted with the automatic transmission display the trans temp off the gauges button. Manual tranny's don't usually display it, but MAYBE when it is hot they do ..... the sensor is there, just not part of the gauges display.

That brings up a good question....If you converted manual 6 speed to an A4, would you not have the tranny temp display everytime you flipped through the "GAUGES" button?

M6's do not have a temp sensor but M12's do. My car is an auto and I can always look at the trans temp on the DIC, I'll have to check my friends Z06 to see if he can also see the trans temp at any time.

Not necessarily, It has to do with the base programming and whether or not the base program is setup for an A4, M6 or M12.
I had a supercharged 03 convertible that I returned to stock, I had several base files and the one that fit my car best was for a car with an M6 tranny so I loaded it into my PCM then I rewrote all of the trans tables to look like an automatic transmission, when I first tried to drive the car the transmission was stuck in third gear all the time and the only way it would go to 1 or 2 was if I manually shifted. Thats when I started looking and found the different base loads to setup for the 3 different transmission types.
If you have programming software you'll see it on the first page when you open the file, it'll be listed with the year and type of vehicle the VIN and trans type will also be displayed.
I've got an '02 Z06 that will show a high tranny temp with temperature, only when the oil is over temp. If I scroll through the gauges, there is no tranny temp gauge. Only comes on at high temp. And the tranny oil temp will only get high if I leave the Competitive Mode of the active handling on, on the track. If I make sure the active handling is turned off when going onto the track, I never have an issue with high tranny oil temps.
