installed new HRE wheels that accept the tire sensors,
the 2001-newer TPMS sensors work fine on my 99 (replaced the reciever)
the whole job took 30min (well installing the TPMS sensors into the wheels took longer)

the kit on ebay was only $200.00 and included 2 new key fobs, the reciever and 4 new tire sensors (2001 and newer). the cost just to replace your 97-2000 tire sensors is right at 400.00 so I would have to give this mod a big

I'm hoping this swap (of the receiver- RFA) is as easy as some are saying. I have a 98 with NO sensors currently installed in wheels. I just purchased a set of thinspokes with 2004 sensors and tires already installed and am about to order the 01-04 style RFA.

Per local GM place the part number is 10312535 and the list price is $113. This seems to be correct when I searched for this P/N at GMPartshouse.com Can anyone verify that this is the right part to buy? And anybody happen to have pictures showing how to get to the RFA? I don't have service manuals yet, although I think I can find it. But pictures would still be great if anybody has any.

You mentioned you bought your receiver as part of a kit on ebay. Is this kit like what you bought- http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=200248654121

specifically, was your's listed as being for export with differing frequencies?

One thing I notice about this ebay kit right off the bat is the wiring harness that's plugged into the box has 5 wires but my factory installed box on my 98 has only 3 pins, and my harness has only 3 wires. I can't see the other end of the harness (adapter??) that's plugged into this box so I don't know if the 5 condense down to 3 or what the deal is.

Can you comment on if this is what you bought, what your car's wiring harness looked like, etc.?? I'm trying to figure out whether or not a 01-04 non-export receiver will work.

so I finally ordered the 01-04 receiver. It came in today but is DEFINITELY NOT going to be a direct swap. This receiver has a 4-pin connector, whereas the one in my 98 has a 3 pin connector (actually the connector has capacity for additional pins but only 3 are being used). Additionally, the connector on this newer box is smaller in size than on my 98. And I think the newer box is a little smaller overall as well. And the new one doesn't have antennas sticking out of either end the way mine does.

So, i'm now at a bit of a loss as to what to do next...

If I were to buy a new OEM 97-2000 sensor, Id wonder how old is the battery in the new unit. I think Id just send off the units for new batteries and know they will last 9-10 years

Mine is a 2000 and all four still work fine ( I just cursed myself)

On the other side, My car us not a daily so can take it off the road for a couple week while I send off the units for new batteries. Im not keen on upgrading some of the electrical parts on my car. It's a little to much mix and match.

Sorry, but when I read this statement and then looked at your signature and saw the mods you have on the car I just had to . Nice car.

For anyone who's interested, someone on another thread pointed me to the right place. Someone much smarter than I figured out which 3 of 4 pins get used, and which wire goes where, for using the new receiver on the older car.

Here's the solution:

The differance is electrical.

I tried to match everything in my built from the Vararam to the gears for a fun street car.

Begin to change to much electrical, and those are the first bugs to fustrate you.

That's just my 2 cents, but I dont like touching or tricking the electrical system ( with the exception of the tune, that I do to much )

To me it's just worth paying the extra $1-200 dollars and only have to worry about the TPMS every 8-10 years.

I changed my 98 vert over to the '02 fobs, tpms, and receiver. It works great. Thanks!
