I'm looking at buying the G5X4 cam for my 02' z06. I plan on running my stock untouched heads. What all is needed to make this thing fit and what other parts do i need to make it as safe/reliable as possible. Thanks!
You are going to need dual valve springs - you MIGHT want to upgrade the oil pump and timing chain while you are in there
That is valuable info for some of us. I've been considering doing a Cam upgrade too. But don't know for sure all the parts needed. It would Help is someone could put a list of items/parts needed to do a Cam change.

The parts list is very simple. Whatever you remove to get to the cam you need to upgrade.
1. Oil pump.
2. Timing chain and maybe gears.
3. Upgrade to a under drive pulley (8-10 rwhp gain) and correct size belts
4. New pulley bolt. (GM bolt can only be used once)
5. Gasket set.
6. Valve springs 918 or 921
7. Push rods for proper lenghts.
Others may chime in with something I may have missed.
Beware,
The cam swap is one of the most time comsuming swaps to do.
Next I hear is the clutch R&R.
Cam kit from LGM will include most all of what you need.
*cam
*comp 921 dual valve springs
*new valve seals
*new spring seats
*titanium spring retainers
*hardened pushrods
You might also want to do the following:
*ported or high volume oil pump
*upgrade the timing chain to at least an LS2 chain
*get an underdrive pulley.
I went w/ the G5-X2 cam kit, LS4 oil pump, LS2 timing chain, Yella-terra roller rockers (new lighter design), and ATI superdamer underdrive pulley. This all went w/ the mods I allready had: Vortex rammer air bridge w/ high flow duct, Kooks LT headers w/ cats, and Borla Stingers.
It has made for a very potent and reliable cam-only package that will safely spin to 7000 rpms over and over completely smooth.
Oh yeah you'll need a gasket kit... SPDC sells a cam install kit w/ all the gaskets you'll need and a new crank bolt etc.
If you are going with the G5X4, i would talk to LGM about their recommendation on flycutting the pistons for that cam. IIRC, P to V clearances are tight, and a missed shift could cause some valve damage.
