Default diff question

Is it typical for the left output shaft of the diff to have slight movement up and down where the right output shaft has zero movement? This is out of the car without the half shafts connected. It didn't seem to leak from that side so I assume no problem, just curious.

Anyone???

I was wondering if this is normal or if the bearings on the left side need replacing. Since it is off the car it will be easy to do and I may as well put in a hardened shaft if I have to take the side cover of. Let me know what you think.

Did you spin them by hand ? (both sides) What's it feel like?

Yes, it spins no problem and feels perfect. I was just wondering if the play in the output shaft was normal. It slightly moves up and down or side to side. I imagine this is normal.

I'm not familiar with 'vette' differentials - but have exp. on other vehicles. I love to learn...
Here's an interesting thread you might want to check out. I don't know if it has anything to do with your vette...as this is for a c6. Definately worth a look - as it has some nice diagrams & info that might be useful. If not...just ignore me.
