Default Rear caliper issue

I installed new Hawk HPS pads on my car and the now the rear caliper touches the inside spoke of my wheels (CCW SP20 19") to the point that the wheels will not rotate. Obviously this was not a problem prior to the pad change and I didn't make any other changes to the brake calipers or system

FYI, I replaced the rear Hawk pads with new AC Delco ceramic pads because I had a spare set and the problem still exists.

Any ideas what could cause this?

I assume you compressed the piston with a C clamp or something to change the pads. Have you stepped on the brake pedal and pulled the bracket back in so the pads are against the rotor?

Yep.

I stepped on the brake pedal after I bolted the wheels on. I'll take them off and try again without the wheels to see if that makes a difference.

Obviously you installed the wheels while you had a set of well worn pads installed in the calipers. You may be able to take a file to the edge of the caliper to get it to clear if the difference is small or if it is too large to file the caliper you will need a wheel spacer.

I have nearly new OEM C5 pads and SP500's and I have a pretty fair amount of clearance. In fact I just installed the C6 rear calipers/brackets/rotors so I'm pushed towards the wheel lip more (13.2" rotor).

Is it possible your wheel fitment is off?

If you had removed your entire bracet and/or rotor I'd say something wasn't back together right, but with a pad change, it's just the one (or two if you removed both) caliper guide bolts.

Does it do it on both sides?

Default UPDATE: The problem was my CCW wheels

Bill Dearborn you are correct. After I went over everything I realized that this is the first time I have added new pads since owning these wheels. The fitment is off - way off. No way am I filing my calipers and the wheels already stick out too far for my tastes as they are.

The good news is that as soon as John receives my Nitto INVOs to mount on my replacement wheels (AVUS AF-M02) this wheel hell of mine will finally be over.

For now I have the old pads back in so I can at least move my car around in the garage.

Thanks for all the help guys,

-RR
