Will I cause any problems using a battery disconnect, and disconnecting it after each time I take it out? It is usually weeks between. Will anything freak out being reset that often?
Probably not, but you know how touchy this car is to electrical stuff. Why don't you get a battery tender? Much better solution, as the battery will stay in top shape and you just have to hook it up and forget it with complete peace-of-mind! :D :smash:
Any battery is going to drain over time, so I don't think the Optima will gain me anything. My current battery is in good shape. I may look into a battery tender. I also replied in your post :)
I agree with carpe dm. Get a battery tender. Better yet, if you need a new battery anyway, get a Optima yellow top and forget about it altogether.
By the way, check your e-mail. I sent you a e-mail about your PRTs.
There was a post about a year ago from a guy that had a mid-year being stored in his garage for the winter, probably with a battery tender. It seems that a positive wire someplace shorted out, causing a huge current flow, causing a fire, that burned up his Vette and garage. If anyone thinks there is the remotest chance of this happening to their car, be it a C5 or earlier, then the smart thing is to disconnect the positive wire and wrap it with insullation, or completely remove the battery. I now do this with my 30 year old summer queen. :yesnod:
