Has never happen before it seem like my fans did'nt kick in. Does naybody have any idea with it may be .. Also I was thinking of changing thermostat to 160 .. Please any help out here .. suggestion please .. Going to look atit tomorrow maybe someting came loose ... Thanks
my 98' always ran hot (220-250) and sometimes on a hot day went red, I put in the 160 thermastat and programmed it with a programmar and now the fans kick on at 160 and it never gets hot.
If it hasn't overheated before, check the area of the radiator that picks up plastic bags, grass, etc before you do anything. It's always possible that your thermostat stuck, but check the radiator/condensor first. You don't want your fans to kick on at 160 or they'll run everytime you drive the car, all the time after the thermo opens. You don't need that. The car should run in the 190 range. Post what you find.
I've found that sitting in traffic for 5-10 minutes on a hot 80° day, my temp will make its way up to 220° or higher. Thankfully it does drop back into the 190° range after a few minutes of continuous driving. I'd be very interested to see if there is much dirt/grass stuck on my radiator—that could help lower temps if it was cleaner.
CHeck to see if the A/C button is flashing 6 times. Reason being the fan switches are connected to the A/C system. If the r-134a for the A/C system gets to low it will cause the fans to not come on. Also your A/C to not be cold. If so, recharge the A/C system and you will be ok.
It could be just your thermostat. Thats what mine did and I changed it and it was fine. I later had installed a 160 and it never goes over 190 in 90+ weather. If you install a 160 you have to reprogram your fans. Good Luck!
