I noticed quite a loud knock and ticking sound after I had taken a hard drive around. I'm not quite sure yet what or where exactly it is coming from. I know it is not the "sewing machine" noise and it was not making this noise prior. I believe I have it narrowed down to either piston slap or a stuck lifter. It is only present now on cold starts and will go away at full opp. temp. and when I accellerate and the rpm reach about 2-2.5 k. I've tried some lucas oil stabilyzer and that helped a bit but didn't elliminate the noise. I also noticed when adding the stabilyzer that I was almost a full quart low in only 1-2k miles since my last oil change. Any thoughts? Should I be worried?
Sure sounds like piston slap, normal condition for these, I would just drive it. Too much work to change pistons or rebuilt for a little noise when cold. This has been discussed before and the answer is usually drive it.
