I had a new spec2 clutch and aluminum flywheel installed on my 02' convertible. The clutch pedal is basically at the floor. When I try to get on the car it gets hung up on shifting into second and third. It also moves forward when the clutch is all the way to the floor. I found out that the shop who installed the clutch didn’t know certain vetts need a shim?? I took it back to them and they put the shim in that spec recommended. Car is still not shifting correctly.
Anyone know what is causing this problem. Its already June and the car has seen a couple of days on the road because of the problems. I’m very frustrated and the shop who installed the clutch and flywheel has been very uncooperative about fixing the situation. Help!
It sounds like you have air in the clutch hydraulic system, and/or a bad slave or master cylinder. I would get the shop to bleed the clutch hydraulics. If thse doesn't fix it, then its most likely the master or slave cylinder causing the problem.
I would also contact Spec directly to solicit their aid. They participate on this board as member "SPEC-01". Shoot him an e-mail as he hasn't been on in a week or so. I have seen him respond in the past and he seems to be very responsive when there are issues with their clutches.
the car has been bled and bled. I talked to justin there at spec today and he told me that i didnt need the shim that the other place put in for me. I have now heard that I need I dont need it 3 times. Spec said some vetts need it and some dont. I ask which year and model and they said it varies. Whatever that means. Im taking it in for the fourth time to see if this new shop can figure out what the heck is going on. Im to the point where im going to replace the master and the slave. If that dosent work im going to go with a diffrent clutch. Its so frusterating.
i had my shop do it. im no longer on speaking terms with them since they wont fix my clutch and already have my money. but i do know it was up on the hoist being bled. whatever thats worth. im taking it tommorow to the place where i had the trans beefed up. they are going to pull it apart for the 3rd time (their first) to see whats going on. im just going to pony up for a new slave and master and get those possible problems out of the way. There goes another nice weekend of cruising down the drain.
A lot of guys pump the clutch, hold it down and then open the bleeder. You should open the bleeder, push the clutch pedal down and hold, then close the bleeder. Not sure how your shop bled it, but maybe they really didn't do it correctly and all it needs is to be properly bled to remove the air.
I would have them install a new master before pulling the tranny again. The master can easily be done thru the driver side wheel well, without pulling the trans. Oreilly Auto parts has the master for $52, and it is the exact same as the one GM sells.
Also, I highly recommend a power bleeder tool. That is the BEST and most efficient way to bleed the system. Motiveproducts.com has it for around $60, and it is WELL worth it.
