I realize this is an old post, but I felt compelled to add my $.02 here. A 275/40/19 tire is 1.7" TALLER than a 305/25/20 tire. This isn't rocket science.

275 is the width in mm. 40 is the aspect ratio or 40% of the width. In this case 275 X 0.40 = 110 mm. Convert to inches by dividing by 25.4 (25.4 mm = 1 in.) 110/25.4 = 4.33 in./sidewall X 2 sidewalls = 8.66 in. Now add the wheel diameter: 19 in. + 8.66 in. = 27.66 in or approx. 27.7 in.

Same for the 305/25/20:
305 X 0.25 = 76.25 mm
76.25/25.4 = 3.00 in.
3.00 X 2 sidewalls = 6.00 in.
6.00 in. + 20 in. = 26.00 in.

Difference: 27.7 - 26 = 1.7 in. taller in the front.
