Default preventive service

Bought a 2000 Coupe with 27000 miles. The guy that owned it hasn't driven much in the last 4 years. I had the oil changed as soon as i bought it. What is the reccomendation for preventive service. Thanks! for the advice

I'd flush the coolant completely and re-fill with Dexcool and a couple bottles of Water Wetter.

I wonder if he flushed the coolent system (should be done every 5 years). It would not hurt to change ALL fluids (rear end, brakes, PS,oil) Tranny could wait till 50K, install a new air filter (or better yet a CAI), maybe fuel filter, bottle of Chevron Techrol in the gas tank.

Check brake pads/rotors. Check tires - if orginal they most likley need replacing.

Change the oil once per year or whenever the oil change indicator tells you to. Not sure on a 2000 but the mileage limit on the oil change may be 10K miles. On my 97 it was 10K but on my 03 it is 15K. Check your transmission and differential fluids at the time of an oil change. If you are like most Vette owners you will only see about 4K miles per year. Your owners manual should have all of the particulars but there really isn't much to do.

As mentioned above change the coolant. Flush the brake fluid. Otherwise the other fluids should be fine.

Here is a link to the 2000 Owners Manual if you don't have one:

If you want to be completely **** about the car - and I mean this in a good way - take it to the dealer and pay about $300 for a full fluids change - everything fluid will be swapped out on the car. Make sure it is a dealer you can trust. I have not found one in my lifetime.

I'd want to start with a clean baseline to work from so:

- antifreeze flush & fill
- transmission fluid change
- rear diff fluid change
- brake fluid flush
- 4 wheel alignment (check the inside edges of the front tires)
- change belts with goodyear gatorbacks
- change air filter
- change spark plugs and wires

Even though the car hasn't been driven much, you're at 7 years so it will be money well spent..............and then you have peace of mind.
