ok, here is a quick situation overview. Car is at the dealer for a bad pilot bearing and input shaft. The extended warranty company is covering that. btw its an 01 z06. While it's apart, i want to throw in a new clutch.
Here is my question. Is it a whole lot more work to replace the clutch with a new one while the parts that I listed, pilot bearing, input shaft are being replaced under warranty.
The dealer is saying that I need a new shift rod and new slave cylinder as well. They say the shift rod is bad and I understand changing the slave, its just common practice, right?
The reason I ask is because they want to charge me labor on putting in the new clutch.(remember, warranty company is covering labor and parts for the input shaft and pilot bearing) it will be an 07z06 clutch btw. Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom that I can use. I don't want to have to get the lube out for them.
i may want to add that they want to charge me $600 something for the 07z clutch, i can get it for $420 something from gene cully.
$220 for the shift rod, $145 from gene
$190 something for the slave, $113 from gene
and $50 a piece for the seals, $13.50 each from gene. I told them that I can get these parts cheaper and the writer was fine with that and it wouldnt be a problem for me to do that. At least i can save myself from getting rapped on the parts
ok got it all straightened out. Half the labor cost is coming from my tranny that has a leak and since its all out they figured get it fixed. The warranty company sees it as seepage and wont cover it till its a leak. I said what about when in 2 months it starts to leak. They said then in 2 months they will pay for it. I say but your gonna get hit with the full cost and they said thats fine. I said ok and then called the dealer to tell them not to fix my leak. Im not gonna pay for it. just giving you guys a heads up.
The trans itself. I guess its 2 halves and the seal between is not leaking but rather "seepage" according to the adjuster. basically because i dont have a puddle under the car but its on the tranny case
Pretty common for the tranny to leak there, from C5s I've seen. If you're really worried about it, clean it up and put high-temp RTV on the joint. That'll hold it well enough. I did that for a few months as a temp fix before I fixed it "for real". It showed no signs of leaking or of the RTV coming off.
As far as the clutch goes, if they're replacing the bearing and the input shaft the clutch is right there. They just have to remove the old, install the new. 1-2 hours.
Oh, and updating your master/slave cylinders is always a good idea when you're replacing the clutch. They're pretty cheap and it would be a real bitch to have to pull the entire drivetrain later on if they go bad.
The only labor involved in replacing the clutch if you need to replace the pilot bearing would be to take it out of the box.
If I'm not mistaken, the pressure plate needs to come off to get in at the Pilot bearing. You might want to think about getting the flywheel and pressure balanced. I had mine checked and it was ok.
And I would also replace the slave/master and add a remote bleeder.
where do i get a remote bleeder from without it costing me an arm and a leg and can the dealer install this without too much trouble or extra labor involved
