Default Replaced Steering Position Sensor - Now Constant Faults

After almost 10 years of seeing the occasional "service vehicle soon" from a C1281H code, I finally had the steering position sensor replaced. However, I now have a constant C1281C code. ( H means History, C means Current) I just brought the car home. Mechanic says I have to give the computer some time to "learn" the new sensor. I am skeptical, but willing to waite and see.
I am sure there is no shortage of people who have had their steering position sensor replaced. Did you have to waite for the error code to go away ?
Any thoughts of the most likely reason for the now constant code ?

I've never heard of letting the computer learn... its not AI its a computer...

possible that they let the steering wheel spin too much and did not put it back to center...

Actually there is a procedure to reset the computer when the sensor is replaced, trouble is you need a TechII and a small shop or do it yourself person can't afford one

I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago. I went from constantly getting errors to not getting any after it was replaced. I don't think there is anything for the computer to "learn". The sensor puts out two voltages between 0 and 5v. The voltages should be the same when the wheel is straight and one should go up as you turn the wheel while the other goes down. See this post for how to check the voltages: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...p?p=1559414744 in particular post #8.

This weekend I'm gonna post pics from my recent steering sensor replacement in this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...p?p=1560679251

The new sensor comes with a pin in it that keeps the sensor from rotating out of the steering wheel centered postion. It's possible the installer removed the pin too soon and the sensor went off center or the sensor was installed with the wheels not straight.

There is no requirement for the EBCM to learn the new sensor. The mechanic installed the sensor incorrectly.
