I am looking to buy a built tranny within the near future and was wondering if someone could give me some feedback on reputable shops. Mainly, Art Carr or SPL or whoever.
Dont bother with feedback for RPM, i already know theyre the shiznit.
In Florida, www.RevXtreme.com. We build them for 1,000 HP plus MN6 & A4's that take year round every week drag racing in the high 10's. We also stand by our warranties.

I have a awesome deal for you! I have a freshly rebuilt (sitting in the floor of the shop) Century Automotive C5 4l60e tranny fully built to hold up to huge amounts of power! I had them build it for my 890rwhp turbo setup! This tranny cost $800 for the core & $2800 in labor & parts! I sold the vette so I really have no use for it now.. I'd take $2,000 for it outright!!

That's a great price! Less than we can build one for.
I am kind of the odd ball here on the forum because I do business with a shop most guys on this forum don’t know about. When my stock unit failed at 442 RWHP (as I knew it eventually would) I had a forum vendor rebuild it for me. When I got it back it failed again within a month so he did it again under warranty. However when I got it back my sixty foot times were 1/10th less than they had been when the trans was stock. (at 3 tracks)
At no time was the trans builder able to correct my problem and worse during both builds they started by disassembling my trans and telling me they could find nothing wrong with it. This in spite of the fact that I lost more than one gear each time it failed. They did not inspire confidence.
Not long after this I blew the engine. Yea, it was a bad year. But I knew that while it was down for repairs I needed to do something about the A4. In desperation I sent an e-mail to Dave Myers at Yank. I told him what had been happening and said;
"Look, you guys do business with everyone in the industry, so you must know who can I talk to that can tell me what is wrong with this trans and get it working right."
Dave told me that Yank had just recently formed a partnership with Gear Star in Ohio. He said they had looked at several potential partners and they chose Gear Star. Gear Star also had a trans dyno and would dyno my trans with the converter before they shipped it back to me.
I have done lots of business with Dave at Yank and he has solved several problems for me so I trust him. I sent the trans to Gear Star. It was working at the time but remember I had lost that tenth off the line. Gear Star looked at it and told me that it had been upgraded to a 4L65-e with a 5 gear planet and rebuilt using standard parts plus a shift kit. What that meant was that I had previously paid someone to build be a stock 4L65-E with a shift kit in it. But there were no high performance parts in the unit.
Gear Star offered me a package price to build it to their level 3 which is 750 flywheel HP. They gave me a 2 year warranty as well and sent the rebuilt unit back to me as it came off of their dyno, full of oil and converter installed. I had it installed along with my new 402 engine. It has been working great for about 18 months now and I got back that tenth I had lost plus the gain another tenth on top of that. They added a hardened cage and output shaft as part of the build and they machined the internals so that they could increase the clutch pack count to ten (I think 7 is standard).
Another thing I like about Gear Star is that for $500 bucks they offer what they call a soft upgrade. Here's how it works. They know that if you drag race on a regular basis you will wear out the clutch packs and bands at some point. It's just a fact of life. But they know their units have already been built with the hardened parts in them. So, if you ship it back to them when it begins to slip they will replace all of the clutches, the bands and the seals. This is what they call a soft upgrade. They have customers who race professionally that own two transmissions. When a trans comes out of their cars they send it back to Gear Star for a soft upgrade which allows them to constantly run a solid trans at minimum cost.
Anyway, I highly recommend Gear Star. They may not be the biggest or the most well know but for my money they are an outstanding transmission shop.

Don't understand your problems with RPM!
I drove over to their shop, they showed me around the shop, introduced me to the guys, recommended a cheap motel (I showed up a day early), replaced my mn6 in about 3 hours, showed me what parts they had replaced, explained the difference in parts installed vs. stock, ask me to to go to lunch with them and more than all else they treated me like a customer.
They also fixed All the problems I was having with my transmission.
I HIGHLY recommend RPM.
I hope you find a repair shop that works for you.

RPM is one of the best, but there are plenty of others just as good. We run a race team all over the Eastern US, from rear engine Alcohol dragsters to a C5 bracket car. Our C5 is raced every weekend, 2-3 races and has been since it had 20k miles on it. It now has 170k on it and runs 11.40's on motor, 10.90's on spray. I know of no more abused C5 in the country....this one has won enough$ to pay for it'self and the trannies are built with the same components as the trannies we run in our drag car. We abuse this more than most any street car gets abused and the tranny has only failed once, and it was a shaft finally broke.
We race on the weekends what we build during the week and most all of our staff are racers. In my opinion you can't go wrong with RPM, and you can't go wrong with us.

I dont have a problem with RPM. I know they are good and would buy from them right now if I could just keep my core.
