Default Castrol Oil

I always use the Castrol 10W-30 or 10W40 on summer on my Ls1 Camaros SS..

I need to change oil for my Vette with uo to 55K miles and bought the Castrol Non Syntetic 10W40....

Im reading that almost everyboy uses Mobil 1, but I want to change oil now.... is any problem?, may I change it and in 3-4K miles change for Syntetic??

The Vette engine calls for engine oils meeting GM4718M
If you are going to only run it for 3-4 K miles you will be OK with a Castrol regular oil.

Personally I drive over to Walmart and buy a GM4718M oil..... in 5W30
Mobil 1
Pennzoil Platinum
Castrol Syntec.

I recently noticed that Castrol Syntec 5W-50 meets GM4718M. (It never did before) I use it in my full-size Chevy truck and my 1974 Corvette. I have 250,000 miles on the 1974 Corvette using Syntec 5W-50. Blew three race prepped turbo400 transmissions in it but I am still running the same 350 cu-in engine without a rebuild.

(I use Mobil-1 5W-30 in the 2000 & 2003 Vettes)

First off, I would never use a non-synthetic oil in a C5. Secondly, there is really no reason to use a 10W oil during Summer months unless you are going to do some extensive track racing. 10W-30 is essentially, obsolete in this day and age. A synthetic 10W-30 doesn't pump up as quickly as a 5W-30 or 0W-30 oil during startup, but will certainly not wear out your engine significantly faster.

I dont understand why, some of people still think that 10W would never work and 5W is the hole world difference!!

Fisrt of all, in the city I live, the lowest temp is about 25Celsius, like 80°F, so 0 or 5W will never really be neded is my tought.

On the other side, the 40 are better than the 30 beacause my Vette still dont tune for early turn on fans y dont have 160° thermostat and always works between 200 and 250° so, I think woild be better 50m but I think 40 is good.

Run German Castrol Syntec 0W-30.

The first number is the oils ability to flow at 40* C. Why not have the best flow possible? The higher the first number...the longer your motor is starved of oil each time it is started when cold.

This site will keep you busy for a LONG time. lol
