If you car has a MN6 (6spd), I can help you. Two things can be wrong. First check the fuse #21, this fuse is found in the fuse panel that is on the passanger side under the floor mat. The fuse is NOT marked Back Up lights, but more than likely marked Auto trans shift lock, any way it is fuse #21, check that, if it is blown try to replace it, if it blows again, you need to replace the back up light switch that is located on the trans on the passanger side of the trans, switch cost about $30.00.
Hope this helps, took me a couple of weeks to find the problem on my 2000 Vert. The main thing that gets you is the way the fuse is marked.
Here's a picture of the location of the b/u switch. Disconnect it, short across the connector (wire end) with the switch on, if the b/u lights come on, change the switch. It just unscrews, screw in the new one, plug connector back on.
