Default A/C questions

well my a/c hasnt worked since i bought my car. then No chrome and myself added some refrigerant and it came back. after a day or two, ( i hadnt used it since we added the refrigerant because we has a cold front come through and there was no need) now, the a/c light comes on when i push it, the compressor engages, the vents blow, but the air isnt cold... I thought it might just be heat soak from the radiator needing to be washed out, but this happens even when the car is cold and has been sitting all night long and before it heats up in the sun.. any ideas?? thanks ... 90+ days are killin me in a black car with black leather.

Default A/C problem

Sounds like you have a leak and the freon leaks out. You can get a can of freon with dye in it and look for leaks at the tubing joints and on the compressor, Most joints are sealed using special O-rings which are made of material not deteriorated by the freon and refrigerant oil. There are also other types of freon leak detectors available but cost is prohibitive for DIY use unless you are going into the A/C business. Sometimes you can simply tighten the fitting that is leaking. Other times must crack it open and replace the O-ring. If you go this route use a little refrigerant oil on the O-ring and fitting before you reassemble it. BIGHANK

If the compressor is engaging then you don't have a freon leak.

If your car is blowing hot air the mode doors may not be moving, have you checked for codes, follow the instructions in this link:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=26&TopicID=1

You may not have any HVAC related codes and thats fine, remove the black panel below the glove box on the passenger side and look up by the blower motor, you'll see some vacuum lines, find the purple one and disconnect it. With the egnine running there should be vacuum on this line, is there vacuum and how much?

Check the vaccum tubes to the diverters. Old batteries have leaked on them on others and have damaged them.

There are also a few threads on the actuator gears in the blower box that went bad.
