I was just notified by email that the Hurst shifter should be at my place and ready for installation around Thanksgiving. I am on a waiting list and getting a discount on it. Since it is new, and I haven't finalized the deal, do any of you have any input or advice? I've read and heard about the Ripper and Kirban already...just need some help before going forward with the Hurst.
i talked to PRO-5.0 the other day, they will have a shifter out in feb. 02. supposedly it will be softer than the ripper. if its anything like the mustang units, it will be good.
I got tired of waiting many months ago. Through the advice of forum members, I got a Kirban and have had no regrets. I really can't see how much more different the Hurst could be over the Kirban or Ripper to justify waiting almost a year (and still counting). I think that the people waiting on the Hurst because they had a Hurst on an older car in the past may be disappointed when the C5 Hurst shifter finally comes out because most of the issues with the C5 shifting (notchiness) has really to do with the C5 rear transmission which the Hurst (nor any other) will not correct.
Quick Question I am getting a Hurst shifter and was wondering if it would void my warranty on the car. I will be installing it in a brand new c5 soon, hopefully so I do not want to void the warranty, well at least not yet anyways ;) . Thanks all.
FunDriver & 3Vettes@Home- I'm with you, I am on the list also. I guess we'll be the guinea pigs  or can you say trend setters? :D
Well, actually I have had the last stage of Prototype Hurst shifter for a few weeks now and it is great! It's too bad I have not driven with any other shifters but I can say the hurst seems flawless. I am using the regular springs and the feel is excellent. Lets just say shifting is one of my strong points now :yesnod:
Re: Hurst shifter finally getting close... (RG in Dallas)
I had a Ripper, and now have a Hurst (started with an early prototype, which has now been upgraded to the final version). I definitely prefer the Hurst - very crisp feel, well made, and the adjustable spring tension is extremely nice. The "stock" Hurst is not quite as stiff as the Ripper was, and is almost perfect in my opinion. But you can adjust it any way you want. Plus the Hurst is nowhere near as noisy as the Ripper was (even with a bunch of Dynamat and wheel weights added to the shaft of the Ripper).
How is it in transferring noise. While I like my Ripper, it transfers a lot more noise than the stock unit. I do understand the reasons why, was wondering if the Hurst unit is as quiet as the stock unit? If it is, I am definately interested. From my previous experience with Hurst shifters, I expect shifitng to be one of its strong points. Appreciate the help and thanks.

The Hurst is not as quiet as stock, but is much quieter than the Ripper. I had the Ripper initially, and the vibration from 2500 up was extremely annoying. I added a lot of Dynamat, wheel weights to the stick, etc., and while it made things better, it was still very noticeable. In "stock" form, the Hurst is quieter than the Ripper ever was, even with the Dynamat & wheel weights. I've since added some extra insulation for the Hurst, and that has made things even better. I still hear a little bit of a raspy, rattling sound every once in awhile, but it's not much of a problem.
I also have the final design of the pre-production Hurst. It is smooth, positive and requires little effort (with the "standard" springs).
If the radio is on (or the top down), you will not hear the occasional rpm-dependent vibration under acceleration. With the top up and the radio off, the noise, if present, is minor.
I give it a 9 (nothing ratea 10) because it has a good feel and is easy to rock with! :D
