Default red light camera spray

I remember seeing an ad for a clear spray for your licence that will reflect the strobe light from camera's. Anyone know anything about it? Thanks in advance.

Google is your friend.

I think your best bet would be to stop at red lights, but that's just a silly observation.

Default Sliebl...

we're supposed to STOP at those things?

Really?

Damn, all this time I thought...... well, you know.

Guess I'd better get me one of those license plate hidey thingies.

I recently saw an article (Car and Driver(?)) where they tested several of these products. In the testing that they did, not one of the blockers did anything to obscure the license plate number of the vehicle.

Most likely, they are a waste of money.

the mythbuster recently did an episode on this, and guess what...none of the gadgets worked. so, as previously responded to, stop at redlights. it is kind of a pet peeve of mine that people here in houston don't stop at a red light, and if they get a ticket, they deserve it. i have witnessed one too many accidents where a driver ran a red light and hit another vehicle. also a victim of such an action and its a sick feeling when you are struck from the side and your vehicle is careening out of control and strikes another vehicle sitting still, and you have no control over the whole situation. once in my dd and one other time in my 72 lt-1. no sympathy here.

I don't know about the rest of the country, but every Corvette owner who lives in the Phoenix area knows of the Scottsdale automated speed cameras.
A lot of drivers had high hopes for that spray stuff.
76 MPH on the 101 gets you and your car, a lovely set of snapshots, front and rear.... (suitable for framing).... that is forwarded to the Scottsdale PD. Not for their family photo albums, but to issue the lucky recipient a citation.

That's what I figured. They don't work. I always try to stop. My problem with the damn cameras is the time you get "caught between " stomping the brake and getting rear ended or hiting the gas to make it thru the yellow. If you don't quite make it you are screwed either way.

And I suppose no one here uses a radar detector because no one speeds, right?

I tried the spray stuff on my plates becasue my couunty is getting quite enthusiastic about speed cameras. I don't recklessly speed through residential areas but let's all admit that we're not always driving right at the posted limit. I don't know if the spray stuff works (and I kind of doubt it does, to be honest), but so far -- knock on wood -- I haven't gotten any surprises in the mail.

And i fully agree with you about red lights -- I hate seeing people run them -- it's just stupid and selfish to think it's OK to blaze through 'em. Yellow means start stopping, not gun it.

These systems are popping up everywhere, Houston now has over 50 and enthusically wants to add more..... Even The Woodlands is starting to install them. Next will come the camera units for speeding with "adjustable" settings depending on how much revenue is necessary.

They are not installed to prevent red light running, they are set up to provide a cheap source of revenue to the government. No LEO is necessary. Typically it has been found that these units actually increase accidents, usually when someone slams on the brakes when hitting a yellow while doing 45 or so and the car behind them is surprized. The other sneaky is that the red light camera providers recommend a quicker yellow duration setting......

Perhaps what we need is a paint for the red light camera itself. It might be more effective.

Default forget the spray! Count the time

Depending on the speed limit, the light "dwell" or "on" time, is usually set by uniform state standards for the particular speed on the street. if you are travelling at 30 mph that would be 44 feet per second. if a typical "dwell" time for a yellow light is 12 or 13 seconds approximately. then if you are within 150 feet of the intersection and see the light go yellow then you can make it through the intersection, without the license plate spray! Just hang out near a typical traffic signal in your city and count the time each light is on during all of the cycles. You can also call your local city "Traffic Engineering" Department and just ask them how long each light is on for each particular street speed limit. Here in Oceanside, California for instance, typical "green" light time on an average arterial street is 55 seconds for a speed limit of about 45 MPH. Yellow light dwell time for that same intersection is approximately 13 seconds. These times are approximate and from memory, sorry. I can get detailed information from our city engineering staff as I meet with them monthly.

^ there's no way the yellow light would be on for 12-13 seconds.

3 to 4 seconds maximum.

If you think that you are getting more than 3 or 4 seconds here in Md. You better smile and take out your wallet.

Default Philly cops consider YELLOW LIGHTS RED

I was born and raised in Phila and got my share of unfair tickets. The cops were more interested in stopping someone going thru an intersection on a yellow light than catching robers or thugs. Roposevelt Blvd (Rt 1) is a 12 lane hideout for the police to grab anyone that they want to. I almost got run over by a huge Pepsi Cola truck approaching Red Lion Rd and as such continued thru the intersection. Was flagged down by a cop hiding behind the trees.
I went to court and that was a real eye opener. When the clerk made a specific hand gesture the cited person was ALWAYS NOT GUILTY. One case right before mine was a person who caused a collision with a fire truck because he had his windows closed and A/C and stereo on.
He didn't stop for the fire engine. His reason for inocennce included HE HAD INSURANCE. That is reassuring to the injured firemen. EVERYONE IN PA HAD TO HAVE INSURANCE. WHAT AN EXCUSE.
When I was called up the clerk didn't make any hand gesture. The police officer responded that "I SAW NO TRUCK" but I know he did.
Phila Justice. Now that they have found out about red light cameras and soon to follow speed cameras there will be no mercy on Phila drivers. Don't get me wrong.
I have almost been rear ended MANY TIMES because I slam on the brakes at a yellow light. This is due to my learning to drive in Phila where ANYTHING BUT GREEN IS RED to the Phila police.
Where I live now they have replaced the strobe light cameras with multiple lens digital cameras that don't even have any film. They send the pictures directly to a vendor who picks out whatever picture it takes (it takes many) when you run a red light. Shiny license plates MAY ACTUALLY BE EASIER TO SEE ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. It is nothing but a money making racket not a traffic enforcement issue. DC is worse.
My wife got a ticket for 42 MPH in as 35 MPH 6 lane divided road and when I paid the tichet the vendor wanted MORE MONEY claiming I didn't pay it FAST ENOUGH. We are living in the Orwellian world where everything you do is now captured on tape or disk. BIGHANK

not sure about spray, but they make clear liscense frames that block the view of the plate unless you are directly looking at it, and those do work, very well

The spray will not work. I run the NO TICKET cover that works. Mythbuster did run a segment on it and spray failed, but the NO ticket when tested worked, but they would not agree it did because it worked on only blocking 1/2 of the plate numbers.
Photo of my avatar shows my plate blocked. I used a flash at nite but works same in day. I do not advocate the use of this, just used to protect my privacy.
